My defensive starters in 4-2-5

Posted by bigboudreaux on 2/28/24 at 12:10 pm
On a 3rd down 4-2-5 I want. Missouri’s defense had a “star” 3rd safety

DE- Swinson
DT- Jones
DT- Shand
DE- Womack

Mike- Weeks
Sam- Perk

CB- Alexander
SS- Burns
FS- Toviano
Star- Gilbert
CB- JK Johnson

… Dime take Weeks out and throw Sage out there.
… Run heavy take out Womack move Shand and Jones over and play Guillory in middle until someone else takes charge of that interior.

2006 LSU at Tennessee. I was born in Louisiana, but we moved to Nashville in 6th grade. My brother and I had 50 yd line seats in our purple and gold. I remember It was very loud in Neyland. JaMarcus hit Doucet with a last second td 28-24 we were jumping up and down while getting death stares.
I actually agree and have posted a similar post on here few weeks back.
This was supposed to be an attacking style defense with double blitzing safeties/corners aka chad jones sack fumble. or the 0 dog blitz sack laron Landry had. Correct me if im wrong but I saw a safety and corner blitz in the first game against miss state and havent seen one since...its like they abandoned everything because the players didnt know how to cover on the back end. He taught his defense on a zoom call and no one bought in.
The fact that O wanted to switch to a 4-3 so quickly without have the correct personnel is partly his fault. Shelvin quit, thomas, ika, moore, mcclendon, brooks had no roles.

I actually agree with most of them. I love coach O and what he accomplished last year. best team ever...
-You cant have a Jr and two true freshman qb's going into the year and not have a backup plan even if it hurts his feelings.
-changing the defense scheme without the horses to run it.
-NCAA allowing Opt outs really hurt us. unlike any other team.
-Ruffled feathers with Pelini and a lot of players left thinking they weren't a fit.

If the wheels continue to fall off like they are doing they have to make a change. And Freeze would be the first call. he does "more with less" than anyone i've ever seen.

Watch players who actually played in this defense talking up Pelini

If you watched the video you will see we have guys that dont know gap assignments and lb's that don't shoot gaps
and corners that don't know how to switch in coverage. We are young and didnt have a full in person spring to coach these players up. not to mention quitters who left the program for whatever reason. All I am saying is give it time we need Horses to run this defense !
I think its obvious that the players don't know the playbook yet, especially the linebackers and the safeties. no-one knows their assignments and who to cover in certain formations. "who slides to who, who gets pushed to who in zone" hence that play where Eli let the wr get pushed to the deep safety who was nowhere to be be found. The defensive line is also not fast enough getting to the qb on passing downs...
I remember watching a def install of his defense at Nebraska on youtube and even I was lost. I say give it some time for it to sink in for these players. Pelini showed he's been successful before I'm pumping the brakes before he gets all the blame. he does get blame for not coaching the players and making sure they know their roles
Posted this in 2018 and got killed

Alleva tried to get Jimbo... failed TWICE!
He then tried to get Herman... failed
Settled with O, O gets a top OC like he promised and they disagree and argue... leads to bad divorce

Enter Steve E: who promises up-tempo with 3-4 wr sets, utilizing talent, with a competent qb!!! sign me up

Surtain isn't even the best cb coming into college; the Radley-Hiles kid at Okl is. Amon-Ra St. Brown had his way with him. You saw him get burned all through the Army game and on the final drive gives up the game winning TD... no hips, gets lost and turned around easy

I know I've been negative in the past, but I have faith in this offense. I've watched the Troy game 4 times. Yes there is an o-line issue! they cannot handle 7-9 man fronts in the formations Canada is running in the beginning of that game... the motions have zero effect against a stacked box. When they spread it out to 4-wide Troy shifted and could only send 3-5 man fronts which our guys were more than capable of protecting against. Etling was able to take off and run if there was no one open and we could run the "zone read" more efficiently, since there were less men to block. Its the "only" stretegy going forward in my opinion. Listen, I think #44 Tory Carter is a stud and we can still run the f-back plays, but only after the opponent is gassed and on their heals

Wow. these must be the same doosh bags who had false hope every spring for the last 8 years that there would be a change for the better. Hate to break it to ya but the guy doesn't deserve a pass for what he did to this program... top choices now. Herman. Fisher. Petrino. Kingsbury. Shaw. Kiffin.

I deserve an apology...

For having to witness this garbage for these last 8 years. In my opinion les made a couple bad descisions after that championship season that ultimately led to his demise...
1st- kicking perrilloux off of the team without having a backup plan. 3 game suspension is sufficient
2nd- Gary crowton wasn't as bad as people think. He mixed it up a lot, ran out of the pistol and zone read shotgun.
3rd- after the hatch-lee-Jefferson fiasco he should have hired a top flight offensive coordinator. Instead he hires his offensive line coach and continues his scheme.
4th-Cam Cameron. "The formula" is out to beat bama with losses to Utah,Texas am,auburn, eventually osu, ole miss etc... is high powered offense spread them out and go to work.
We all know what transpired next...
