Beautiful place. Was there about 5 years ago. I hope it comes back better than ever.

The store in metro Memphis isn’t visible from the interstate. Less sure if Germantown Rd is considered a state highway tho.
Stevie Wonder can see the IKEA Memphis store from I-40. It takes up half a mile.

Alexana coming in at #14 was a nice call. Their wines are amazing and always a steal at their price.

Sweet Swine O’Mine Red Box Smoker. Championship quality smoker at a reasonable price. Great for beginners and then move up to larger smokers.

I am on season 3 and can’t stop. Season 1 is slow, but I read it gets better and better each season. It certainly does.
AMC has great shows with Halt, Turn, Hap and Leonard.

re: Do California Grapes Have Smoke Taint from Wildfires?
Posted by sol graves on 9/17/20 at 12:45 pm to vistajay
Always wondered about this and if it also affected open top fermentation with wines and natural yeasts. If they are using natural yeasts in aid, doesn't smoke in air get into flavor? I have no clue just wondering.
In 2017 I was in Oregon and asked that question to a winemaker and he thought I was insane.
Also wonder if some “high end” grape farmers limit their volumes this year due to Covid and blame it on fires to get some federal assistance.

Burned down. Not open.
Brookhaven is not my cup of tea, but nearby in case you want a beer/burger and watch a game at bar.

Google Emeril’s recipe. Pretty easy and very good.

Went to Clos Figueras. Very nice. Great restaurant. Ask them to go down into cellar.
We had a guide so no idea where it is but Clos Dominic is amazing. Paco is the owner and speaks little English but his wines were great. His upper terrace blend is worth it. He doesn’t export to the US.

I will look for my Priorat notes and guide info. Loved that region. My favorite wine region and I have been to many. Unreal olive oil as well.
re: Barcelona, Madrid, and Lisbon (End of Aug / First week Sept)
Posted by sol graves on 7/30/19 at 9:49 pm to Statestreet
Took this exact trip last November.
Barcelona is great. Awesome place to be based out of to take side trips as well.
Madrid impressed me. Only spent two nights there. Wished we could have spent another.
Lisbon was awesome. Took side trips to Fatima and Sintra. Could have spent the night in Sintra.
Food was amazing at all three stops. We booked some last minute walking tours and it was great. We went during non peak season so we got in and out easily.
We booked all three cities in H10 hotels. All were very nice, clean, and great rates/locations. The one in Barcelona is on La Rambla. The one in Madrid is more in the neighborhood/business central but easy and the one in Lisbon had a great roof top

re: Anyone done Willamette Valley?
Posted by sol graves on 7/30/19 at 9:39 pm to michael corleone
Went to Willamette, Astoria, Canon Beach, and Portland a few summers ago.
Canon Beach was amazing.
In Willamette definitely see:
Soter (Mineral Springs Ranch)
Ayoub
Beaux Freres
Eminent Domaine
Evening Land
Not Bad:
Penner-Ashe
Domaine Serene (too Napa country club for me)
Domaine Droughin
Anne Amie
Erath
Skip:
Eyrie
Carlton Winemakers Studio
Winter Hill

Had a 2015 Round Pond Super Tuscan tonight. Poured a glass for wife and then polished off the bottle. Have two more in cellar so will have to provide a better review on another night. But it’s damn good.

See if you can find As Bifanas Do Alfonso. Cozy place with a great sandwich. Go easy on the hot sauce.

I promise you it won’t be real. Had a local on a tour say the drug laws are very relaxed there but all of the dealers preying in tourists sell baking powder or oregano.
I had one try to sell me viagra. Must have been the salt and pepper hair.

Not sure how many days you have there, but have been several times and the better vineyard stops are below.
Soter/Mineral Springs Ranch- beautiful vineyard that grows more than grapes. Bring some extra cash to buy fresh produce.
Ayoub- only hosts small groups. Need appointment. You literally taste in his living room
Alexana- wine is amazing. All wines are getting high scores from all magazines.
Beaux Freres- awesome visit. Excellent wine but they know it. Expect to pay $ here.
Patricia Green- next door to Beaux Freres. Great wine.
Eminent Domaine- beautiful picturesque views. Only way to get here is up a windy road. Don’t go if you get car sick. Wine is excellent.
Domaine Serene- they call it a country club and it is. Very proud of their wines and charge for it. Wine is great. Worth the $. However can find other wineries with excellent wine for less.
These are not bad if you have time
