While I intend to, that brings up another point. My homeowners insurance requires that I have a car policy as well. So if I switch my car insurance, that likely means I'm going to have to switch my homeowners as well. Is this a pain in the arse?

I'm with Shelter and I have a pretty clean record, 1 speeding ticket. I'm also over 25.

The majority of my premiums come from the Bodily Injury ($310) and Collision ($260).

I'm definitely going to remove UMPD and will probably get rid of Comprehensive. The car is only worth about 4K at the most.

Is Medical Payments worth keeping? It's cheap so it's not a very big deal but I just haven't noticed anyone address it. I'm not sure if it's necessary or not.

I'm going to check on a 100/300/100 quote. And I'm also going to look at raising some of my deductibles.

Thanks for all of the replies.

Car Insurance

I have recently had to start paying my own car insurance as I have made the move to becoming completely financially independent from my parents (I'm a couple of years out of college). I figured I'd just take the policy my parents had for me and make it my own. Reason being, my parents are really good with money and make it a point to get good deals and not just blow money. If they thought the policy was good, then I thought it must be worth keeping.

But then I got the bill. I think $1,000 and change is a little high to be paying for 6 months of car insurance. Here are my coverages:

Bodily Injury - 50K per person, 100K per accident
Property - 25K per accident
Medical Payments - 1K per person
Uninsured Motorist, Bodily Injury - 25K, 50K
Uninsured Motorist, Property Damage - 25K per accident
Collision - 1K deductible
Comprehensive - 250 deductible

Is all of that really necessary? There's got to be something that I can cut. The only accident/violation I've got is a single speeding ticket so it's not like I'm getting nailed due to violations. And I drive a 10 year old Maxima so it's probably not my car that's making it so high. Any advice would be appreciated.

You're basically in the same situation I was in out of college, minus the student loans. I got denied a couple of times so I just went to my bank and they let my mom co-sign a credit card with me. Nothing major, 1K limit and no rewards. Put a hundred bucks or so a month and paid it off. A year and change later, I bought a house with a 750 credit score.
I get the max withheld out of my paycheck. I got my tax return back a few months ago and it was way to high. I like getting a little money back, but I don't want to get that much back. I can use that money elsewhere.

What I'd like to do is take some of that money that is being withheld and put it in a deferred comp option that I have. But I'd also like to keep my paycheck at what it currently is, or very close to it. The problem is that I'm completely ignorant as to how to do this and how all this works. Don't get me wrong, I know how taxes work and things like that. But I don't know what to change as far as what is withheld. I also don't know anything about deferred comp, outside of the general concept and the math behind it.

Any advice?
I wouldn't really use the term "worried". Worried implies that I'm unsure of the outcome but I'm leaning towards it being bad. That's not the case. There's not one damn doubt in my mind how this will play out.

At this point, I'm wondering who our next coach will be.

How does checking your score through one of these sites effect your score? Doesn't it bring it down a few points or am I just making shite up in my head again?

I've never been here before so I don't know what to compare it to but there are tents up. The only tents I saw though were in parking lots. There looked to be a lot of activity in the lot across the street from the front gate but I didn't check it out. There are plenty of tents out beyond the perimeter gates behind the outfield as well, but that's also a parking lot.

Wait, are you saying they sold beer?
When do they open gates relative to game time?

Thanks for the info everone.

Well that sucks.

Can you sneak booze in?
I'm going to Rosenblatt for the CWS and I've got a few questions. Who better to ask than LSU fans right?

1) If I have a general admission ticket, how early do I need to get there to make sure I have a seat for the day game?

2) If I go to the first game, am I screwing myself on getting into the second game?

3) Will the let me bring in sun screen?

4) Surely they sale beer, how much do they cost and do they stop serving at any point?

Mortgage/Refinancing question

Posted by Ole Miss Sucks on 4/14/10 at 9:02 am
This guy I know was talking about refinancing his mortgage the other day. Currently, he has a 30 year mortgage (which, I believe, is fixed rate and he is in year 3) but he said that once he refinances he will pay it off in 12 years. The only thing that even remotely makes this possible to me is paying the same mortgage note twice a month instead of once. But I'm fairly ignorant in this field so I don't know what the options are. Am I right with my assumption and is this beneficial? I didn't really want to ask him any questions for fear of sparking further conversation.

Yep, they did. When I was Googling to try to confirm the MSU-LSU series, I saw that MSU did win the SEC tourney that season and therefore, the SEC. I believe that was during the years that the SEC Tourney winner was named "SEC Champion" and there was no championship awarded for having the best conference record during the season.

You are correct. I believe LSU was a game, maybe 2, better than us in the SEC that year.

You can get them. They will be GA for outfield seating and you are not guaranteed to be able to have a good view. But you can get tickets.

Co-signing and credit scores

Posted by Ole Miss Sucks on 1/25/10 at 8:39 pm
I'm trying to get my credit score up from no credit to respectable. In my attempt to do this, I got my mom to co-sign with me on some furniture... or so I thought. Turns it, she is the primary person and I co-signed with her.

Does this matter from a credit score standpoint? Will I still get the same credit score bump if I was the primary and she co-signed?
Dude, Im a state fan and I'd leave MSU for UF, If they want him, he's gone. That said, I don't think they come after him. They can do better.
Didn't he turn them down before Meyer took the job?
