Is the sec playing poorly all auburn's fault??
Posted by Truckasaurus on 12/31/14 at 11:08 pm
After being the only sec team to lose a bcs championship to a non-SEC team, our conference has looked beatable.
I don't think it's a reach to blame auburn for all these teams playing with no confidence and these other teams playing like they think they can win.

The answer is no.

Equally amusing are the dems trying to take credit for it.
I was really surprised the Republicans didn't try to take credit for it. None of the crises (shutdown/debt limit) have seemed to be able to stop this train.
Government spending increases have slowed considerably.
If you believe limiting spending helps improve the economy, Republicans should be credited for it.

UPS and FedEx provide a service. Take item to place.
If space exploration were privatized, would Voyager 1 have launched? What about the moon landings? Would a private company have paid to go there so they could come back here and sell the moon dust?
Sometimes, the driver of certain things mankind does shouldn't have to be about profit.

Almost half of this board probably believes the numbers are all made up. If drudge, zerohedge, blaze say the economy sucks, the economy sucks.
Deal with it. Facts don't matter.

I'm for privatization of space exploration.
That's just silly.
I understand privatization of things like satellite launches. There is profit to be had from that.
There will likely never be that kind of market for space exploration.

Don't engage these maroons.
Just admit that white people are the real victims, like Fox News tells these people, and go back to actually being a positive member of society.

The consensus where I work (in the DoD) is this is HORRIBLE. He has no military experience but has ENORMOUS experience as a bureaucrat that never makes a decision but blames others when the shite hits the fan. On a positive note I will say this......he's perfect for Obama.....a complete "yes man".
The DoD is a bureaucracy. Him being experienced in this is not a bad thing.
That is one of the most poignant criticisms of Obama that I actually agree with as a Dem - for all his great ideas, he had no idea how to actually get anything done as President. Too many moving parts and axles to grease that he seemed unaware of.
Question about where you work in DoD, do/did the people there like Cheney or Berger as Secretary of Defense?? It's not like they came in with military experience.
Everyone I've talked to in the area of DoD where I work seem to think he'll be at least adequate, and they aren't ones to typically like anything this President does.

This is a dumpster fire waiting to happen. Carter was number 6 or 7 on the list because he's NOT qualified.
When Hagel resigned, I saw him on every top 3 list people were putting out there.
Of anyone, he may be the MOST qualified. I was worried they would pick Fluorney over him because of the historical aspect. Luckily, she took her name out of consideration.
Of anybody that could have been chosen, Ash Carter is the most capable of jumping right in and serving off the final two years of this presidency.
Ash Carter - Next Secretary of Defense

I called him out as being the best candidate for Secretary of Defense.
Looks like the President agrees.

I'll be interested to see what attacks, if any, are levied against Mr. Carter.

Haha- seems like you just read some Wikipedia entries. I sense such deep-seated conviction in your "I agree" statements. You truly sound like a man of principle and deep thought.
I will 100% admit that the reason I know those quotes are because of the raised interest in immigration this week. Felt like it was time to get versed in the subject.

Dodged that question like a true democrat. I'm curious of your stance on this.
Sorry.
I know that was a non-answer, but the question seems unrelated to me.
I don't believe an inability to speak English should be a barrier to immigrating to America, however, I don't believe private businesses or any state should be forced to provide services in different languages.

Can we model our welfare system the same way as the system in place in 1790?
As a country, we can make our welfare system however we want by passing laws and such.
The only thing that has to do with immigration is that it is part of American society today.

So you believe all immigrants should be required to learn English?
I agree with Thomas Jefferson when he said immigration is "a right which nature has given to all men, of departing from the country in which chance, not choice, has placed them." and that America should be open those people.
I also agree with Thomas Paine that the United States should be "the asylum for the persecuted lovers of civil and religious liberty."

Back when the framers were still legislating, the only requirement to become a naturalized citizen were that you had to be a resident here for a few years, petition to a court, be of high moral character and pledge an oath to the US Constitution. (It was antiquated in that you had to be white, but noone here seems to admonish the founding fathers for being slaveowners and such, so that is a moot point)
LINK
This law was changed several times in subsequent years to extend the length of time you had to be a resident.
Anyone else here think that we need to model our system after Naturalization Act of 1790? Bring people out of the shadows and offer them a path to citizenship and a chance to participate in the greatest country in the world?

History told us that Reagan and Bush acted under congressional approval. AP writer Andrew Taylor claimed they acted unilaterally. Read the link and a history book.
Reread the article.
Both acted unilaterally. There was a law passed in 1986.
There were flaws.
Congress was not able to pass laws to fix these flaws.
Both presidents acted without congressional approval to extend the "amnesty."
