The offense has to be perfect because Blake Teppers defense cannot close.

End of the first half & game against OM & again last night. That's 3 times on the road he's blown it. "Shoulda, coulda, woulda" on the 4th & 1 but we should be able to rely on our defense to hold them. Instead, Tepper breaks out the vaunted Chambliss prevent (the stack-I defense is another discussion).
All the pressure is on the offense. They have to be perfect every drive because the D can't bail them out when the game is on the line
Oh, Kiffin needs to quit coaching like a bitch on the road.

It's gonna take 4 years for Blake Tepper to implement his defense.

Not much else you can say. Team was unprepared & the play calling on both sides was bizarre, confusing and incompetent

I think Skip understood Saban more than anyone at the time. He had the ultimate "hipo" power/money hungry employee who was always looking but seemed genuinely conflicted about what he wanted - NFL or college. Heck, Sexton even said when the Miami discussions were going on he asked Saban "Do you want to be Don Shula or Bear Bryant?" Saban responded "Bear Bryant" to which Sexton replied "Then what hell are we doing this for?"
Skip first & foremost had a duty to look out for LSU. He had to know: Nick ain't Skip. Skip was loyal & grateful for everything LSU did for him. Nick wasn't (the only thing Saban has ever appreciated is more money). Skip loses a bidding war & every agent knows how high LSU can go. If he wins he's applied a band aid to an infected itch that's going to demand more attention in a year or two. No amount of shmoozing or side business deals was going to cure that itch.
Skip did the best thing he could for LSU: he made an offer and said we go no further.
As an ironic aside: this whole Saban narrative of "The worst decision I ever made was leaving LSU" is straight out of the Bear "I never should of left Maryland, Kentucky or A&M" Bryant playbook.

They will immediately back down to moderately forcefull and reasonable confrontation. After that, they apologize, become your best buddy, buy you drinks and offer you a great deal on their beach condo.

Tepper and Mike Bugar were about as bad as you will ever see at DC. I say Dinardo as OC in 98 - McConnel was definitely not calling plays - was on par with Crowton, Cameron and Sloan.
