Lawn Help - Baton Rouge
Posted by RouxDog91 on 2/20/23 at 1:57 pm
I need some help getting my grass to start growing. The house/grass is only three years old. It's centipede.
Since the first day it was planted, it has never really taken off. It will turn a brownish-green during the growing months, but has never filled out and just isn't a pretty lawn.
I've done a soil sample and it came back at a high ph. As instructed by LSU, I've applied Sulfur quarterly for the last 18 months. I've also fertilized.
I know it's early in the growing season, but I can already tell my grass isn't going to be as pretty as some of my neighbors.
Is there any recommendations for a company/individual that can come take a look and make recommendations as to what I need to do? Not looking for someone to cut my grass, just need someone to make it grow.
Thanks!

re: Big Dog mowers

Just purchased a 60" Stout MP about a month ago to cut about 5 acres. Had one issue where the belt tensioning spring on top of the mower deck broke clean in half. Guy at the shop said he had only seen that a handful of times, and chalked it up to a faulty spring.
Other than that, I have had no issues. Very comfortable seat. Takes me about 2 hours to cut 4.7 acres.

I plan to in November! However, I'm hearing even with a passed vote that it still might not be until 2022 until LA is up and running with it.
Any truth to that?

Sports Betting in Louisiana

I know that sports betting is currently illegal in LA, but I always here colleagues taking about it or even on the radio. Are their currently any ways for an LA resident to bet on sports, other than going to Mississippi? Any legal websites?

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to look into the few things suggested above.
Adam, I'm married and have a 2 year old so I dont go out on week nights. Weekends usually consist of house work and the occasional golf outing.

Two Part Question - Motivation and Supplements
Posted by RouxDog91 on 10/2/20 at 7:07 am
I've gotten to the point where I just feel unhealthy. I'm 29 years old, 6'1" and 215lbs, but the weight is not where I want it to be. It seems to be packing on to my stomach and waste only, and I just feel like crap...
Do yall have any tricks to stay motivated as far as dieting and exercise go? I've tried to eat healthy and usually fall back into my old eating habits after only a few days. We do have a Peloton which I ride from time to time, but not nearly as much as I should..
I've thought about trying dieting supplements. I just have ZERO clue if they are okay to take or not. I'm talking about the ones like you see on TV that curb appetites, boost energy, etc. etc..
Any advice will help!

It would be extremely rare for a female to get that big. We've been hunting them my whole life and the biggest female we've ever caught was just over 9'.
For what its worth, biggest male was 12'-6" in Gibson.

Finish for Cypress Mantle
Posted by RouxDog91 on 7/17/20 at 9:09 am
Morning Gents.
We recently found an old piece of sinker cypress that we had cut into a mantle. After sanding and staining, I'm looking for a good finish that will protect the wood. I'm not a huge fan of how Poly pulls out the orange tints of cypress... Any other suggestions?
I've looked at finishing wax (such as Varathane or Johnson's), but have never tried it... Thoughts?

TBH, I was expecting higher numbers for a Tuesday... If only our fearless leader wasn't scared of the possible repercussions.

Fish Biting Near Gibson?

The wife (no pics) and I are going fishing for the first time this year and I'd like to be able to put her on at least a few bream or sacalait.
Any of you care to share your recent experience in the Gibson area? I've fished their quite a bit, just not recently.
Thanks.

re: Page 6 UPDATE: Baby is 5 months old.. waking up every time we put her down
Posted by RouxDog91 on 4/7/20 at 5:55 am
I'll probably catch some flak for this, but we hired a sleep specialist for ours. She was waking up 6-7 times EVERY night. When she turned 6 months old, mom said let's try it. Best investment of my life, as she is now sleeping from 8:00p.m. to at least 7:00a.m. every day.
I think our main problems were keeping her up too late, her not getting adequate naps during the day-causing her to be overtired at night, and rushing into her room everytime we heard her cry.
It's been a breeze since we got some help.
