It's been over a month for us. We filed and got accepted on February 10th. Still says, "not done processing," or something along those lines.

So the general consensus is that we need to respect the 2nd amendment because we all have the right to bear arms, but we don't want to afford the same rights to a certain individuals because they cannot obtain a weapon with a legal background check. You can't have your cake and eat it too people. You need to be one way or the other. If you have a right to bear arms, so does every other red blooded american (criminal or not). That's the american way right?
Correct. And if you don't want to have shootouts while you're at church, the movies, at school, then you're obviously unamerican and a socialist.

Yes, because I was the one that asserted owning a gun confirmed your manhood in some way. Wait, that was you.
Not to mention telling someone you don't know to go f*ck themselves because they have a different politician opinion of you. You're obviously a true gentleman and prize yourself.

Here's the one on children:

Here's the some on likelihood of an accident over defending yourself:
Arthur L. Kellerman et al., Injuries and Deaths Due to Firearms in the Home, 45 J. Trauma 263, 263, 266
Linda L. Dahlberg et al., Guns in the Home and Risk of a Violent Death in the Home: Findings from a National Study, 160 Am. J. Epidemiology 929, 935
Here's where you can find more:

I've obviously done my research. You should do yours so you can form your own opinion instead of letting your rationality and logic be overrun by emotions and what your father and grandfather taught you.

It's not a cross section of the country. It's per capita so it is actually an adjusted number for the entire population of the countries so you DO get a comparable number.
Mexico is ethnically homogenous (like Italy) and has a higher crime rate than the U.S. Your logic doesn't hold up.
I'm saying the entire comparison is asinine regardless of the country picked.
Italy is basically 100% white Italian people.
America is about white 79.96%, black 12.85%, Asian 4.43%, Amerindian and Alaska native 0.97%, native Hawaiian and other Pacific islander 0.18%, two or more races 1.61% (July 2007 estimate).
That white number includes all Hispanics as well as all other white immigrants from other countries and backgrounds.
Comparing the two countries is stupid. Especially comparing them trying to make a point choosing one single thing with no explanation or discussion about the differing causes and problems with the single statistic chosen.
Perhaps you'd like some statistics in gun violence segregated by first world countries? Segregated by ethnicities? Segregated by socioeconomic circumstances? How gun violence perpetuates poverty? How much more likely you are to accidentally shoot yourself or someone else than you are to use it in self defense? How people with guns in the home are more likely to be involved in homocide than gun less homes? About how for every 1 justified death, there are 44 unjustified? Or how about in top 25 income countries, America has the highest adjusted rate of firearm deaths? How about the fact the amount of children under the of 15 who die from guns in this country is 12 times higher than the other 24 combined.
All these studies exist if you're willing to do the research. To act as if this country doesn't have a gun problem because the NRA has brainwashed you into believing you're safer with them... Go ahead, be a sheep.

And remember: the Laffayette and Virginia shooters purchased their guns legally.
Lafayette and Virginia weren't technically mass shootings. The definition for statistics are at least four deaths (that can include the shooter), but 79% of mass shooters purchased their gun legally.
In addition, there's not a single documented case of an armed civilian stopping a mass shooter in the U.S.

You still don't get how to read statistics. Just stop. It's a per capita statistic. Not random 100,000 people.

re: New bike advice...

It depends on exactly what you want when you say "exercise/longer ride purposes."
A road bike with the drop down handles is going to put you into a certain type of "form," if you will, and is light for speed, aerodynamics, etc.
A mountain bike will obviously have thicker tires to be able to handle off-road conditions. A traditional road bike tire doesn't handle off-road situations well at all.
There are hybrid bikes which are pretty good. Fairly lightweight, regularly bars so you're not in drop down form (more comfortable), etc. I'd say that's the most common "commuter bike," other than maybe the cruiser. And well, assuming you're a man, I don't recommend that.

This. It's laughable that these LSU fans act as if the state of Louisiana has ONE real football team by pure coincidence. GTFO of here.

Yes, it does. And I went one time with some coworkers, and it was literally all middle-aged women dressed like were 16.

I lived in Beaumont and worked in Orange. I'm 26, fyi, was 24-25 at the time. Orange is awful and so is Beaumont. If I had to do it all over again, I'd definitely live in Lake Charles.
There is legitimately nothing to do in Beaumont. We would sometimes go to Luke's after work for "happy hour" and would constantly wonder where all the other young professionals were with all the plants and refineries around. The men all wear Tap Out shirts and have gelled hair and the women all just look like total trash.
Lake Charles on the other hand, while not my favorite place in the world, has a lot more to do. I've had many fun nights at L'Auberge.
Good luck and try to spend as little time actually in Orange as possible.
