But it was second down, ball didn't cross the line to gain, and it wasn't roughing the passer or kicker, so why did they make it first down? The original LOS was on the 20, 1st play they gained 4 yards making it 2nd and 6, is when this crazy down happened. The holding call brought it back to the 14, and the PF call brought it back up to the 29, where the 30 was the line to gain. So why did they give them the 1st down and 1?
I misunderstood. I thought the hold was called on 1st down. I got no answer for you.

Think of it as two completely separate penalties. The holding results in a penalty that is enforced and the down is replayed. The personal foul is dead ball and also enforced, but does not carry an automatic first down. So the result of both penalties being enforced will be 1st and whatever the distance is to the original line to gain.

quote:Sounds like they got this right. Well it was neither, so why did they make it 1st and 1? Should've either been 2nd and 1 or 1st and 10.
If the hold was at the line of scrimmage, the result should’ve been 1st and 5 from the 29. It all depends where the hold was marked.

HC had the ball on the Rummel 24, they were called for holding, and Rummel had dead ball PF called against them after the play. Officials marked the ball ten yards back to the Rummel 14, then marched it 15 yards to the Rummel 29, and they said it was 1st and 1, not moving the chains. Should it have been first and 1 or first and 10 from the Rummel 29. I've never seen that done before. It was very confusing.
Under National Federation of High School Association rules, the only defensive penalties that carry an automatic first down are roughing the passer and roughing the kicker/holder. Sounds like they got this right.

What is the word on Montgomery…. No LSU offer?
I don't know that he even makes it to OU. He has MLB tools and probably gets drafted pretty high.

I'd like the excel version if possible. Thanks.

This! Don't be surprised if this is banned by the state next season.

I wish the rule would be whatever you wear to bat, you have to keep with you while running the bases.
Having to call time to switch out 80% of your equipment after every hit seems silly to me.
NFHS is actually considering implementing this rule. Not sure it'll pass, but I'm all for it.

Sam Houston is the most impressive team I've seen so far this year. I've been behind the plate for two of their games(1 win and 1 loss).
For me it was Benton. Had them for two games, one on the dish and another in the field. They are solid, well coached, and play fundamental, team-first baseball. Pitchers worked fast and stayed in the zone. Hitters were up there looking to hit.
I'm not surprised by that. I haven't seen them this year, but I had them for a playoff series last year and I know they returned a lot from that team.

Barbe might split with Sulphur, may even split with Southside but no shot splitting with Sam Houston, no way. Sam Houston is going to drag Barbe, twice. Mark. My. Words.
Sam Houston is the most impressive team I've seen so far this year. I've been behind the plate for two of their games(1 win and 1 loss). They're deep in pitching and there aren't any holes in their lineup. No clue on Barbe as I haven't seen them at all, but SH is definitely one of the teams to beat.

The best looking player on that team was #13.
That’s Braylon Calais and he’s only a sophomore. Will be a big time recruit in a couple of years.

Why does LSU run the RPO now when everyone knows Garrett Nussmeier is not going to run the ball? Obviously with Jayden Daniels the threat was real. Shouldn't we run something that optimizing our offensive production. Just my thoughts!!!
A lot of people think that any time the QB hands the ball off out of the shotgun, it's a zone read. Watch the blocking schemes. The vast majority of LSU's shotgun runs are blocked as normal running plays and not as zone reads.

It’s 10-10 in the 9th. Really going out on a limb with that prediction.

Agreed. Reading the comments, you'd swear he choked the kid. Grabbing a kid by his jersey is whole lot of nothing.

CHS vs HC so of course I’m gonna bitch about a call…
none out, 1st and 2nd for us, it’s a grounder to the pitcher. They try to turn two and umps call interference on us. What doesn’t make sense is the runner we thought went to third got brought back to second… he’s at a base a trailing runner was forced to
We did score 1 run but it took away a possible crooked number in the 1st
Sounds like you just don't understand the penalty for offensive interference. All runners have to return to the base occupied at the time of pitch. They got it right.

So you’re in favor of burning Floyd in that situation? That situation would favor Wake big time.

Baylor's defense carried them to a victory in the Big 12 title game. The offense played poorly against an ok OSU defense.
Pretty obvious you haven’t watched a ton of football outside of LSU. OSU’s DC is a finalist for the Broyle’s Award this year and Baylor was without its starting QB. I’m not surprised that they didn’t generate a ton of offense today. Grimes is a solid OC and I’d take him in a heartbeat.
