The 2003 game has nothing to do with this game...but neither does last year's game. I think the result will be similar to 2003 but that result has nothing to do with the 2003 game.

Can you really not comprehend these sentences?

2003 has nothing to do with the result in 2011
2010 has nothing to do with the result in 2011
The result in 2011 will look similar to the result in 2003.
The result in 2011 will not be because of the result in 2003.
Well this would be an argument better suited for the Poli Board and we're probably best off avoiding that board, I've posted there off and on for years til I finally got sick of it.

So we can just disagree and it's all good.

With all that said, I obviously think LSU will win but anything is possible on any given Saturday.

There's just an awful lot of smack talk from Arkansas fans who generally seem to reference years past as reasons the game will be close/Arkansas will win/Arkansas will blow us out (take your pick).

I don't think Arkansas is as good as advertised. Not saying they're bad but I don't think they're as good as everyone says either. Everyone talks about their high-octane offense which has barely outscored LSU's, even though LSU has faced superior opposition. LSU has allowed less than half the points that Arkansas has and scored only slightly fewer. The offenses are equally potent but LSU's defense has a drastic edge. Defense normally trumps offense.

You are a fng moron. 2003? GTFO

<sigh>

Remember that big snow 8 years ago. I have a feeling it will snow again like that this year too!

vs

Because it snowed a lot 8 years ago, we will have a big snow this year.

There is a difference in those statements. Now, let's apply this to this thread.

"Remember 8 years ago when LSU beat an "On a Roll" Arky team 55-24. I predict a similar outcome this year."

=/=

"Because it was a blowout in 2003 it will be a blowout in 2011"

"Because last 3 years have been close, this game will be close."

I'm not sure why this is hard for you to understand/grasp. Come down to Louisiana and get a real education! (I kid!)
That's not what I did.

I simply restated what happened in 2003 and said this year the result will be the same.

It is possible to review history for similar situations in order to make a comparison without claiming that because something happened previously it will happen again.

Are you going to tell me to learn to read as well?

Yes...

quote:

But this year will be a repeat of 2003.

That does not say "Because 2003 was a blowout, 2011 will be a blowout." But it does say "This year will be a blowout, just like 2003 was a blowout. Those are 2 different things.

"Because Girl A is pretty, Girl B will be pretty" is not equal to "Girl B is pretty, she looks just like Girl A."
Besides, I'm bored and writing something was more interesting than sitting here til 5.

Same coaches, same players, basically everything is the same between the 2003 game and this year's game.

Please learn to read. I never said "Because we won in 2003 we will win in 2011." I simply revisited that year and the circumstances surrounding the game.

That is different than saying "We've (Arky) played LSU close the last 3 years therefore we're going to play you close this year!"

The 2003 game has nothing to do with this game...but neither does last year's game. I think the result will be similar to 2003 but that result has nothing to do with the 2003 game.

Same as someone saying "I think it will be close." That's OK to say, but makes no sense when you say "It'll be close BECAUSE it was close last year."

Most of the time (not all) games are close because the two teams playing are close in regards to overall quality as a team. This year, I believe LSU, overall, is a much more quality team just like in 2003. There's always anomalies and anything could happen, but I think LSU wins by more than 2 scores.
quote:

Did you write this? Holy shite. You even specified the damn time of the 2003 game.

Ha ha. I was going to put 1:30 because that is the time the game always is, but when I looked at the schedule (because I forgot the score) it said 1:40 so I put it.

FYI the LSU vs. Arky game (since it's almost always Friday after Thanksgiving, is practically always at 1:30 if I'm not mistaken....which I may be.
quote:

Petrino vs Miles history as opposed to you comparing Nutt vs Saban

I was comparing LSU vs. Arkansas and mentioned neither coach. I did not say "because we beat you in 2003 we will beat you in 2011" all I did was revisit that year and note that the circumstances surrounding the teams were similar to this year.

I just said I predict the same outcome. But, that outcome has nothing to do with 2003. The outcome, like 2003, is based on LSU being superior to Arkansas.

quote:

meh, LSU beating Ark this year doesn't have much to do with 2003, IMO.

No it doesn't. But if they're so obsessed with past history of playing LSU close, I figured we'd continue the review of "past history" to the parts they'd just as easily forget.
quote:

For one you can't spell revisit correctly

And you can't punctuate correctly.

Perhaps "revist" was a typo....but I guess that never occurred to you.

2003 LSU Vs. Arkansas - a review

Posted by relentlsspursuit on 11/15/11 at 2:28 pm
Since the Arky rhetoric has reached nauseating levels, I thought it necessary to revist 2003.

Going into their November 28th, 1:40pm, showdown in Tiger Stadium, Arkansas was 8-3 and LSU was 10-1 and ranked #3 in the nation with an SEC Championship trip on the line and National Championship dreams still a legitimate possibility (a loss would have sent Ole Miss to the SEC champ and the season's goals a failure, I believe).

Arkansas appear to be playing great football, having defeated their previous three opponents (USCe, MSU, and New Mexico) by the score of 128-32. They were on a roll and looking to play spoiler to LSU that year. This Arkansas team had taken Florida (whom LSU lost to) to the wire, losing 33-28 and had lost by only 1 TD to Auburn. Their only other loss was to Eli Manning's Ole Miss team who also took LSU to the wire and was still in the running for the SEC Championship.

The year before (2002), Arkansas had beaten LSU 21-20 in Little Rock; in 2001 LSU won 41-38, and in 2000 Arkansas had won 14-3. The series had been very tight the previous years.

On that cold November day, however, thanks mainly to a smothering defense, LSU won 55-24 and easily cruised on to the SEC Championship game and ultimately the National Championship.

Arky fans, you love to discuss the past few years. You love to say how in 2010 you beat us in Little Rock, how in 2009 it took OT for us to beat you in BR, etc. etc. ad nauseum. You tout your record this year, etc. etc. But this year will be a repeat of 2003. An Arkansas team which beat up on a pathetic UT team and has barely squeaked by cellar dweller teams will meet a similar fate as in 2003.

The only real team you've faced exposed you as the fraud you'll always be - the little lap dog who barks non-stop - a shrill aggravating bark - only to roll over when the big dog comes around.

Come November 25th your incessant claims of grandeur will once again be replaced by your humbled mutterings of "Wait til next year!"

Thanks! That is true, I guess it is high risk/high reward. Colts always seem to be pass-first.

I hate to trade Brees and end up with Stafford getting hurt again like he has every year.

But who knows with Manning will be back.

Help With a Trade

I had auto draft and ended up with Brees as my QB, which is good, but my WR/TE looks like this.

Reggie Wayne
Austin Collie
Dallas Clark

So, I have IND entire receiving corps basically.

A league member got hosed on QB but has Larry Fitz and Calvin Johnson as his WR and wants to trade for Brees. Is Brees for one of them fair for me or should I ask for an additional player?

My backup is Matthew Stafford who should be fine if he doesn't get hurt.

I need you for a win buddy! I sat Brady for you!!

+1

Luckily Wallace went off in the 4th quarter.

I am down 2. I have Vick and Akers. He has Torrain and Eagles Defense.

Someone talk me out of starting their defense this week. They play Arizona.

I am debating between TB, St. Louis vs. Carolina, or Oakland vs. Seattle...or KC against Buffalo

Trade: Brady for Hines Ward

Thoughts?

PPR league and I have Vick as my 2nd QB, I'd pick up someone random for this week, probably Fitzpatrick.

Did you know that AU rushed for 200 yards w/o Cam?

If you really think those guys run for 200 yards without Cam Newton you are delusional.

Scobee 20 points

He had 22 in our league last week. Of course, we get 5 points if someone hits a 50+ yarder.

I have MJD, Bradshaw, and Best in my league but that is not as bizarre as MJD and CJ in one league.
