Multiple sources are reporting that Vols head coach Rick Barnes has turned down the UCLA job and will remain at Tennessee.

Barnes has been the head coach at Tennessee since 2015 and has led the Vols to two straight NCAA Tournament appearances. Per ESPN:

UCLA began aggressively pursuing Barnes last week with a lucrative package that would have paid him $5 million a year, not counting bonuses and incentives, sources told ESPN.

Barnes was named Naismith Coach of the Year on Sunday and met with Fulmer later that evening, according to sources. Barnes finalized his decision to stay as the Vols' coach on Monday night after Tennessee countered with a new deal that was in the neighborhood of what UCLA was offering. Barnes' buyout to get out of his contract at Tennessee was $5 million, sources said.

UCLA realized they can pay anyone to not win a big game ...they withdrew offer.

This is a symbolic passing of the torch. From one AD mishandling a coaching search to another. Congratulations UCLA on somehow screwing up even worse than Tennessee!

Barnes born in Hickory, NC. If home means anything to him, its closer to TN than CA. I think he's smart staying in TN.

Barnes said he stayed because UCLA wouldn't pay the buyout in the Tenn contract. And Barnes said if UCLA had paid, he'd be the UCLA coach now.
