It was announced this week that former Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn will be joining the College Football Playoff selection committee this season.

Malzahn recently retired from coaching after a 35-year career. He was most recently Florida State's offensive coordinator last season. Per CFP:

IRVING, Texas – The CFP Management Committee has appointed Dr. Bryan Maggard, athletics director at Louisiana; Gus Malzahn, former head coach at Arkansas State, Auburn and UCF; and Jeff Tedford, former head coach at Cal and Fresno State, to the CFP Selection Committee, it was announced today by Rich Clark, Executive Director of the CFP.

The new members will begin three-year terms starting this spring. They will replace Chris Ault, Jeff Long and David Sayler, whose terms have expired.

Clark also announced that the management committee has extended the term of University of Arkansas athletics director Hunter Yurachek as selection committee chair for a second year through the 2026 football season.

"The additions of Bryan Maggard, Gus Malzahn and Jeff Tedford will introduce strong, fresh perspectives to the selection committee as we enter our 13th season," Clark said. "Each brings a deep understanding of the game, a genuine passion for college football and a commitment to integrity and excellence. Their diverse backgrounds as university leaders, recent coaches and former student-athletes will complement our returning members and allow for a seamless transition."

"We are also pleased to have Hunter return as chair," Clark added. "He embraced the role last year and quickly established himself as an effective and respected leader for the committee."

"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to return as chair of the selection committee, Yurachek said. "It was an honor to work alongside such a committed group last year, and I'm excited to continue building on that momentum this fall. Every member of this committee shares a deep passion for college football and a strong commitment to upholding the integrity and excellence of the playoff process."
