I am thinking they may be related.

I'm curious how Vandy fans on this board feel about the idea of a deal with an MLS franchise to use their stadium off campus.

While it makes me sad to say, I am personally in favor of it. I don't attend many games now and would probably be more likely to do so in a new venue that is closer to me, more comfortable, and likely to have an improved parking situation. Frankly, I can't imagine that fewer students would show up than already do.

That said, I don't think it is the right answer for the University from a football perspective, though it may be from an overall perspective, depending on what their plans are for the space occupied by the current stadium.

I look at the long game

The probability VU is still there 100 years from now

The probability a MLS team is still in Nashville 100 years from now

To me the correct answer is to fund the higher probably future survivor and to have the lower probability take the secondary position.

True, but Ingram can actually make money back on MLS. He has sunk a lot of money back into Vanderbilt with no financial return on investment. There was a scathing interview by Chris Lee from VandySports.com about the situation where he basically said Ingram has tried everything to get Vandy to renovate at Dudley or rebuild on-campus. The administration has just pushed those efforts aside, but when he invested in the MLS expansion group, they asked about sharing the stadium.
