Hurt his knee, waived by Philadelphia last June rather than being placed on injured reserve. He was looking for another NFL team to sign him as a free agent but he's not on any NFL roster at present.
Last I saw was an article from a couple of months ago about the USFL starting again, with Birmingham the site of another "inaugural" season in spring 2022. Newman was mentioned as a possibility for the USFL (along with Johnny Manziel, Vad Lee, and KJ Costello).
