I wholeheartedly agree. The reason is because of CKS's motivations which are more pure. A chance to become a coach at his Alma Mater where he should show loyalty for years down the road.

Hate to disagree with you....but Smart to UGA is pure because he graduated from here? that indicates that if USCw, Texas or, say, Notre Dame were available, he would turn them down to come to UGA. Make no mistake about it. Smart came to UGA because we were the best job available with the best opportunity to succeed. USC was gone, Texas stuck with Strong, we offer a better opportunity than USCe. Smart wanted a HC job, and at the time we were the best job available. It had nothing to do with him having graduated from here....although, I am sure that didn't hurt. That is something the media likes to make a big deal about. Had a better job been available, he would have gone to the better job.

I'm not suggesting that was Kirby's only reason in taking the Georgia job - I'm not suggesting that at all.

What I'm saying is that the fact that he's an alum MAKES HIM A BETTER CANDIDATE for the job than others. It's a motivating factor in his hiring.

It makes him a better candidate because his loyalty COULD factor in down the road should ANOTHER opportunity become available.

Will Muschamp is also an alum, and I wouldn't agree that his affiliation with UGA makes him a good candidate. I'm glad he ended up not in Athens.

I think there is some motivation to do it at your school, but to be successful as a coach, you have to pretty much divorce yourself from your school allegiances. It's also a two way street. From a marketing standpoint and longevity of ones job, going "home" may be a better business decision as well.

Kirby himself said on the 680 interview that he waited at Bama for a top line job to be offered in the South and that it just worked out that it was UGA.

Coming home makes a nice story though.

I got slammed this morning on this same thread on the SECR by some SC fan. Absolutely slammed... I was wondering why he was so pissed because I never said anything about Muschamp as a coach - just that I thought Tanner f-ed the process up.

Should have posted that on Coaching Changes instead of the Rant. Emotions don't run quite so high there.

And the Rant is Troll City. Post there and folks automatically figure you're trolling.

I just don't know why this sc rooster guy just won't let the f-ing thread DIE.

he keeps bumping it - let it go for crying out loud. Pretty sure people have seen enough

MY OPINION (although now I realize I'm bumping THIS thread)

Wtf. I made a rookie mistake.
