Yea, only because the offense put up an insane amount of yards and points.

The offense (injuries) and special teams did not.

The offense ABSOLUTELY played well enough to win most of our games, even with the injuries.

Were they not? Did that not happen?

No they didn't. Our defense allowed on average 30.9 points per game vs FBS opponents ranked 84th in the nation in scoring defense. LINK

Special teams aside, our offense was ranked 20th in the nation in scoring offense averaging 36 points per game against FBS competition. So again you would seem to be incorrect in that it was the offense in spite of injuries that played well enough to win most of our games while the defense did not. LINK

Agree and beyond that I think he is simply the type of person who takes a position and supports his narrative regardless of the data/facts; in other words a person who will never admit that they are incorrect. Our current POTUS is the classic case of such a person.

The 84th in nation stat is useless. Look at the sec vs sec stats for a better picture.

I'm tired of this argument. Let's get some actual stats and numbers in here.

Year Scoring D Rushing D Passing D Total D
2013! 79th, 43rd, 59th, 45th
2012 18th, 80th, 8th, 32nd
2011 23rd, 11th, 10th, 5th
2010 36th, 56th, 16th, 23rd

Not it's not. All teams including all SEC teams are compared based on games against other FBS teams not vs cream-puffs. Here's the SEC rankings for scoring defense:

1. Alabama - 4th nationally
2. Florida - 11th
3. South Carolina - 13th
4. LSU - 22nd
5. Missouri - 30th
6. Mississippi St. 32nd
7. Ole Miss - 38th
8. Auburn - 47th
9. Vandy - 59th
10. Georgia - 84th
11. Tennessee - 87th
12. Arkansas - 88th
13. Texas A&M - 92nd
14. Kentucky - 93rd

How? You really can't debate numbers and results.

I haven't read any hard evidence that suggests UGA's defense was anyway near acceptable under Grantham. If you as a fan are happy with us being ranked 84th, 42nd, or whatever then something is wrong with you. I want the team to be up there top 10 art least top 20! Grantham was underperforming and not coaching the players up. Deeprig just face it you are defending a position that is not winnable because none of your points make sense

2007 Martinez = 18th in the country in scoring defense.
2008 Martinez = 58th in the country in scoring defense.
2009 Martinez = 63rd in the country in scoring defense.
2010 Grantham = 36th in the country in scoring defense.
2011 Grantham = 23rd in the country in scoring defense.
2012 Grantham = 18th in the country in scoring defense.
2013 Grantham = 79th in the country in scoring defense.

Grantham was doing his job. But he mortgaged the future on our 2012 team (and he failed to recruit enough DBs even if we didn't have attrition).

The results of 2013 are easily explained (6 true freshmen credited with starts). But there is no excuse available when it is his 4th year.

Go ahead and let pruitt dumb down the defense.

..... crinkle crinkle ......

You look around the room, there's cam cameron eating your bag of chips....

"Dude.... those are the chips from my lunchbox!"

You see a wadded up baggie at his feet with bread crumbs and a little scrap of crust....

"Dude! You ate my fricking sandwich too?!?"

Cameron sticks his fingers back into the chips.....

.... crinkle crinkle ...

Again, I fully expected us to take a hit in 2013 from 2012 with all the talent we had to replace, but the Freshmen coming in were pretty hyped. Their talent was raw, but they looked promising. I expected us to struggle early and ramp up with the amount of experience they were gaining.

We struggled early and we struggled often and we ended the season struggling. We can talk about how our DL and DBs did a good job, but our secondary was bad all season long, and that's what killed us time and time again on 3rd downs and big plays.

Grantham needed to do whatever it took to make things simple and clear for our secondary. He needed to make sure their fundamentals were improving game after game and that they knew their assignments and what the call was and how to execute.

Like I said before, he's not a terrible position coach, I just don't think he's cut out to be a DC where he's responsible for all defensive units and making sure his plan is installed and executed effectively. That mixed with the gaping hole in experience from 2012 to 2013 killed us on defense, but that gaping hole should have narrowed with each game and week of practice.

I'm still glad he's gone.
