Loved the early and mid 90s Athens. May not have been as cool as the 80s but still an amazing place to go to college. Short of a lack of football success, wouldn t change a thing.

Yes. That was my roommate Dan. He had gone off the rails and had been pretty messed up in the head for about 2 months. He was already messed up from a childhood where he was molested by his stepdad. Then he started doing some hardcore drugs with some shady townies. He lost it mentally and I was the sounding board / stand in therapist trying to keep him from going over the edge. A bunch of crazy shite. That loft had a silverfish problem and I came home one night and he had flooded the kitchen floor with about a 1/2” of water saying he was trying to drown them all. He did so much crazy that we drove him to Charter one day and they kept him there 2 weeks. Went back and picked him up when they said he was doing well. He wasn’t. It was a week later when he was alone in the loft while I was working at Uptown. A buddy came in and told me what was going on with shite flying out of my loft windows and crazy dude in his whitie tighties. By the time I got down there the cops were inside my place and he was curled up on the floor. The cops told me that he had been in Flanagan’s telling everyone he won a huge sum from the lottery and ordering large drink rounds for the dozens of people repeatedly. When he didn’t pay and walked right out of the bar door and into the door that led up the stairs to our place, they called the cops. He then stripped down to his underwear and went and started screaming and arguing out of the windows with all the drunk bar patrons out on the sidewalk. A crowd was down there having fun antagonizing him and he started tossing shite out the window. Started small with plates and cups and graduated on the larger items. One of which was one of my tower speakers that was 4’ tall. Cops somehow got the door unlocked and took him down. He demanded that they get the President of the United States on the phone so he could talk to him. The cops told me he was all over the place speaking gibberish and wanted to know if I knew if he had family and how to get in touch with them. All I knew was that he was from Savannah and that he told me his mom still lived there but he hadn’t talked to her in years. That was the last time I saw Dan. They took him to jail. Crazy how he flipped over a few months. I had known him for about 3 years and he was a normal funny dude, until he wasn’t. Whatever drugs he was on really fried his brain.

I guess a happy ending is that he contacted me on FB about 7 years later (around 2003) and apologized and told me he had straightened things out. Was engaged and working a good job. I occasionally see a post from him whenever I look at FB and he is still married with a 20 year old and a 18 year old. Seems content and happy. But that was a stressful and wild couple of months living with a guy that carried a lot of childhood baggage and eventually lost his mind.

They should go ahead and put a gate around downtown. Sell tickets and require an arm bracelet to enter through turnstiles that have advantages for those that don’t enter until 11pm because that’s super f’n cool

Instead of mouse ears like at Disney world, people’s kids could wear thick rimmed hipster eyeglasses purposefully

It could all be stupid and overhyped unless your actually a retarded college student or someone on a message board reliving the time when they thought they were cool

Good idea. You could get the homeless bums to man the gates.

Instead of bars, there will be beer/liquor kiosks.

You’re arm band bracelet will unlock cocktails at$17 a piece

You’ll try to press the button to deny a tip. But it will double charge you instead with an error message

Good people will chastise you for being negative and pessimistic if you complain

Ouch!! What was that? (falls to ground clutching ankle)

Yep. Sewer mounted tranquilizer dart. Seems someone’s Georgia message board activity does not comport

Deeprig, consider posting a preseason playoff bracket prediction thread. And add some of your weirdness. Pretend you’re buying a pergola from Lowe’s to duck tape to your roof

My prediction threads don’t work here anymore. I spent all my currency

My pergola has survived many a strong storm, including two of a tropical nature. Leave the pergola out of this. It's done nothing to you.

Thread idea:

“Under the Pergola: w/ deeprig9”

You could sit under it with your legs crossed like Brandle Chamblee and ask for2025 bracket predictions. And then you could scoff

I like the concept but I hate pre-season bracketology. I hate it. I can't stand it.

Okay. I like what’s happening here. “Under the Pergola” is more of a post Georgia game kind of feature I think

Win or lose, people are gonna be on tilt and ready to melt or gloat. Where better to let them do it than…..

Under The Pergola

It’s the new digital post game call in show

How do we monetize this and get rich?

I've got OBS on my son's computer and some microphones and cameras, I'm about to have a Tascam DP-006 where I can mix down some mind diarrhea on a whim, should this be a YouTube channel? I'm not committing to anything, just spit balling here.

Streamyard is what a lot of YouTubers use for live call in shows.

Jefferson,

Has it been lost on everyone that OP's name is athenslife101 and is asking for places to check out downtown? I haven't seen that called out yet. I noticed it day 1, I assure you. But I let it slide so someone other than me could point it out. But enough time has passed that I can't hold back anymore. So it is now pointed out. And I expect some sort of recognition for pointing it out.
