Good One Comin’ On… and a long one, tl;dr ahead… Got up at 0745 this morning because I had to verify migration of a SharePoint site from local server farm to “cloud” farm. By 1000 I was done.
On Thursday, The missus and I went to Sam’s to get some Ahi Tuna steaks. They had one pack. Less than optimal, it’s about a 45 minute ride to Sam’s.
This morning my buddy texts “I am at Sam’s and they have plenty of tuna steaks”. Of course they do. So I tells him, I tell him, get me a 100$ worth and I’ll come get’em. So he does, cause he’s the best friend I’ve ever had.
At 1130 I head over to get my fish. Hang out, talk for a good while. Leave around 1300. (As I type this, it is pouring rain at Lake Blackshear!)
I stop on my way home and pick up 5 bales of pine straw. I need something to stop erosion under my back steps. I put 4 bales down whole. Broke up the 5th and put it in front of the 4. It’s all getting tested right now (it’s coming a chicken turd floater).
Finally sat down on the dock with some cold beers and watched recorded NHRA 2nd round qualifying from last weekend (I was at the beach). I’ll watch the rest later, no spoilers please.
Then it was time for FSU v Nerds. Switched over to find out they’d been delayed. Came in after Nerds turnover. Saw FSU score. Then weather.
Switched over to GA Southern game. They’ve got 33 players out. They’re losing to Campbell. A North Carolina equivalent to Albany Jr. College.
Now, I’m back to the FSU game. When will Sep 26th get here?

Hmmm. Well. I work for the DoD. Not using Microsoft support at all. Migrating to a DoD “cloud” site. It’s all on us. Custom workflows. SQL reports off the backend. We have to ensure they all work. Manually.

I could have done my site Friday night. Would have taken about 2 hours.

But

I had to be “online” at 0800 Saturday morning in case there was an issue that required “all hands on deck”.

So.

Why frick up my Friday evening AND my Saturday morning?

Up front, we’ve already set up a mirror copy of our farm at the “new” remote site.

Our backup guy, pulls a backup of a site collection. ‘Restores” it at the new site.

We have to manually review the site, workflows, SQL reports, etc. to ensure all works.

We’re waiting on ShareGate to be approved and installed on our laptops. But, as per usual in the USMC world. We’re being pressured to complete migration prior to the tools, that would make our job easier, being approved.

I retire in 2024. I’m gone. In 2024.

It's just a sharepoint migration. It's not a all hands thing. Just phone it in.
