Stay strong man, it's not an easy journey but it's a worthwhile one. You definitely did the right move going into a rehab center. I quit cold turkey and felt like I was dying for a week or so. Be prepared for your body to go through a lot of changes over next 6ish months, both physically and mentally. Stay strong and fight through it and you'll be fine man. I drank for 11 years daily, maybe had 10 days sober in those 11 years. I would run through a minimum of 3 30packs a normal week, football season would dramatically increase that number. Before I quit my liver was on verge of shutting down, a little over a yr after I sobered up it was back to that of a normal person.. I know I can be a dickbag on here but I'm typically not as big of a dickbag irl. So if you need anything or want someone to talk to who knows what you're going through dont hesitate to shoot me an email and I'll give you my phone #, let me know when you email me though. I rarely check that one. Spankyrant@yahoo.com

Best of luck man. Stay strong!

I'm familiar with your situation. First, you did right by admitting you have this problem. Willing to go to detox is the second step. They WILL get you clean. The main problem is what happens once you get out. Please, don't lose all hope if you fail once you are out. Many do fail once out. My loved one took 7 trips thru 4 years, a horrible fight, plus thousands of prayers, but now is clean 3 years. I'm just warning you the fight to be clean may be much harder than you think. But I'm 100% sure you can do it. Don't give up on God's help, even though you think He might not hear you. God bless you.

My dad was the biggest alcoholic in the solar system, and damn nearly died from it.

He lived the last 35 years of his life without a drink. If a total drunk like hm can do it, aint no way you can’t.

Where there any symptoms or was just from the blood work?

Honestly the symptoms were copious consumption of alcohol, mostly binge drinking. Then at my annual physical the bloodwork showed elevated ALT and AST enzymes which indicated stage 1 liver damage.
Was sent to the ER, then a level 4 detox (medically supervised with I.V.s) for 6 days then was able to gain admission to a McLean treatment program which is apparently very good. It's kind of a scary experience honestly.

I appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers. Go Dawgs. Unfortunately I was on a van going to an AA meeting with the other clients here and missed the first 3 quarters.

I’m at (some might say past) the point where I need to cut way back or quit altogether. I can’t just have one. If I have one I’m gonna have several. And I can drink a lot and not seem sloppy drunk. My body has acclimated. I know people who have gone to AA and quit and I know some who did rehab. Alcoholism is a tough disease, but everyone I know who quit has a better life now. Kudos to all of you who’ve decided alcohol was damaging your life and health and did something about it.

I don't think sobriety is an easy thing to do and I need help from above as humbling as it is to post this.

It won't be an easy thing. I'll be praying for you, as I am a Christian. People get sober without God, but I can assure you that it is much easier with God.

If I can do anything, let me know. (If you still have my e-mail address) If you don't let me know and I will send it to you. I'll help any way I can.

Thank you also Spanky, I might just do that. They're keeping us pretty busy but we do get a little break on Sunday afternoon.
