This was in response to why our run game wasn’t as effective as it had been in the past.
I didn’t say Stetson was terrible pre-snap, just that Fromm and JT are really good pre-snap. I’m simply telling you that when you compare our passing game to some of the better passing games in the country, you can see why teams load the box on us. We’re not bad by any stretch. We’re just not consistently scary. However I think part of that is because of playcalling. Stet has started like 10 games and thrown more than 30 times once. JT has started something like 8 times and 4 of those he threw 30+ times. I also think if Kirby is gonna say that one factor that gives Stetson an advantage is his legs in the run game then he needs to pull the read plays more than 1 or 2 times per game.

He has more than enough speed for the NFL and faster than Sony or Chubb.

What do you think is the biggest thing holding us back from having an elite run game at this point?
Our OL isn't quite as good as we've had recently (Pittman is a boss), but I think our running game is exactly what our coaches want it to be.

It's clear that over CKS' tenure here that he's been what many consider conservative on offense. He wants to control the ball and control the clock. He wants to field elite defenses and run balanced offenses so that we aren't one-dimensional. He wants to put complete teams on the field.

Everything that CKS does is centered around balance. He doesn't want one guy being the super star. He wants the team to be nameless and faceless but resilient and powerful. When you rely one one guy, your team rises and falls with him, but if your team is balanced, you can overcome a lot of adversity.

Just think about the team we have this year: we are #1 in the country and it isn't even close. Anyone who is anyone sees that we are the best team, but we've gotten there with injuries to our best players on offense, including our QB1, and attrition on defense and a new guy stepping up seemingly each week. While Davis has been getting national attention, we have an entire defense filled with talent that creates chaos and plays for each other. Our offense has been powered guys who came out of nowhere when our studs got injured. Our special teams has been incredible this year (save for some inconsistency with Pod).

So yeah, we don't have the same explosive running game as we did with Chubb, Michel, and Swift toting the rock in 2017, but it's doing its job within the context of our coaching philosophy.

Teams stacking the box

I haven't Brooks-Austin'd every run play, but my recollection is teams keeping the box stacked as a matter or course, the old "Stack the Box and Make Fromm Beat You" defense but this time is Stet.
