From ‘92-‘96. I never knew that. VSU has had some big names.

Yes, he was there with Mumme, developed Chris Hatcher, who went on to become Head Coach and hire Kirby and Muschamp.
Mumme/Leach was the start of VSU being a consistent power in the Gulf South and D-II football. They never won it all, but they laid the foundation.

Valdosta State was still Valdosta State College when Leach and Mumme arrived. It changed to University in '93.

I read Leach’s Swing Your Sword book a long time ago. One of the things I remember most is how much he loved his time in Valdosta. He said that of all the many times he had to relocate while chasing his coaching career that the only time he and his wife ever actually cried when leaving a place was when they had to leave South Georgia.

So was Dana Holgorsen from 1992-1995.

I pulled the book off the shelf because I’m gonna reread some of it tonight to remember the man. Here’s a sentence I underlined whenever I read it for some reason from the Valdosta chapter…..
“I loved that town. I loved the pride of that place; they were committed to everything they did, whether it was cooking, telling a story, or digging a hole.”
Dude had great instincts.
