Halloween 2 is as good as the first and along the same lines.

Hell no. Not even close.

I only remember two things about part 2. One is the kid in the ER that bit into an apple with a razor blade in it. And two, is that I had a 16 year old babysitter staying with me one weekend when i was little that i was in love with, and she rented Halloween 2 on vhs. Im laying on the carpet in front of tv on my back with a pillow behind my head, and she’s lying next to me. And then when the movie ends and the credits start rolling, she rolls over to ask me what i want to do next while giving me a quick love pat on the stomach with both hands. Immediately on contact, the pat forced out a loud fart that i guess id been holding in and we fell apart and were paralyzed with uncontrollable laughter rolling around on the carpet for at least five minutes straight with tears falling unable to talk. It was awesome.

The babysitter and the fart. What a story. However, Halloween 2 was just as good.

Where H2 starts to fall off for me, from the original, is that's where the supernatural part of the saga begins. It starts at the end of Part 1, and he's just been blasted at close range by Loomis. But it doesn't phase him. Through out all of part 1, the killer is just an escaped mental patient, all of it plausible and believable- thus terrifying. It's right off the bat in part 2 that he's something more than human. That diminishes the scariness factor for me because I have to take a leap of faith, or suspend disbelief in some way, to stay engaged. It's still a top shelf horror movie, but it falls off a little from 1. Also, the setting never changes for part 2. For whatever reason, that diminishes it a little bit for me.

I was just reading up on John Carpenter. Didn’t realize he was responsible for so many of the classics.

Not only Halloween and The Thing, but he also did Big Trouble in Little China, Escape from New York, and They Live. These were on hbo every other day when I was a kid and I probably watched them 10 times each

Interestingly he didn’t direct Halloween 2 though.

From Wikipedia on Texas Chain Saw-

quote:

Hooper produced the film for less than $140,000 ($800,000 adjusted for inflation)[3] and used a cast of relatively unknown actors drawn mainly from central Texas, where the film was shot. The limited budget forced Hooper to film for long hours seven days a week, so that he could finish as quickly as possible and reduce equipment rental costs. Due to the film's violent content, Hooper struggled to find a distributor, but it was eventually acquired by Louis Perano of Bryanston Distributing Company. Hooper limited the quantity of onscreen gore in hopes of securing a PG rating, but the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) rated it R. The film faced similar difficulties internationally.

Chainsaw Massacre as I already said is really not gory, not the original. But still horrifying. I can't believe I'm the only one here fighting for this movie.

I still quote it regularly.

"Yeah, I'm calling to file a claim and I don't wanna hear 'Act of God'"

Also, as I already said, if you are a Halloween fan, you have to find the Netflix series "The Movies That Made Us" documentary series and watch the Halloween episode.
