I think an argument could've certainly been made for Herman. Obviously Smart was the right choice and came in with the necessary vision. Good times ahead.

It’s probably a coin flip. Gus Malzahn coached teams just seem to always struggle in openers. And get better as season progresses. While Chris Peterson teams usually dominate in openers and fade toward end of season.
