I think the gun nuts (myself included) are just getting into the technical aspect of how to justify the statement that he removed the magazine from the gun and also fired a shot into the ceiling.

No trolling from me. This was a terrible event and a tragic, unnecessary loss of life. I feel bad for his wife and kids (especially the kids).

I'M NOT TROLLING!!!!!!!!!

I am an avid firearms enthusiast and I understand how they work. I was legitimately trying to answer how a live round wound up in the chamber.

I spent 10 years military, own an arsenal, and a CCP. I understand how a gun works. My original post was directed at the credibility of Oliver playing a joke. Its just too hard to believe. Also, how do we know it was a tactical pistol? Maybe it was a revolver. Doesn't matter really, mans dead, feel bad for the kids. Movn on.

I doubt it was a joke, since it seems like he had talked about suicide often. The comment about the joke was probably made to make it seem like he wouldn't really have done it on purpose (a coping mechanism?), which is possible, but who knows?

Also, thank you for your service

How would one drop the magazine on a revolver?

A revolver has a cylinder. It doesn't have a magazine like a semi-automatic firearm does so no way to drop a magazine on a revolver.

The way to open a revolver cylinder is to push the cylinder latch on the side of the gun and then push the cylinder out with your other hand. This allows you to then either load or unload the revolver.

You would'nt. The article didnt give enough info, however, the original CNN article states the weapon as being a Glock .40, not a revolver. Scenario could have happened, and not been reported. Doesnt matter though.
