Dawg Historians: Bye Week

How does the bye week work? Who picks the week? Florida always gets a bye before playing us. We have one also but not always, to my recollection.

We put in a request for when we would like our bye week and they try to fulfill every team's request. It's why we had to play 5 or so teams that were coming off of a bye week in 2018

So it's team request to the SEC or NCAA? The reason I'm asking is a lot of years under other coaches, we never got it and The Lizards did.

It’s up to the SEC I believe. And I feel like we chose to have a bye before AU instead of the UF game.

If you remember Spurrier made it a priority to have a bye week before playing us.It took us a while but we did the same eventually.
We didn't have one last year because the Gators got a covid pass for one of their earlier games and screwed up the bye week for both.
I think both teams having a bye is a special deal with the conference.

I remember that. The tide seemed to turn our way once we started using our bye week for UF.
