There's been lots of data mining on the rant, so I took a look at both teams, broken up into non-common opponents (average offensive and defensive rankings) and common opponents (average performance).
Here are the avg rankings of Non-common opponents (P5 and ND opponents only, ranking based on games vs P5 competition only). Georgia played one extra P5 team, GT, which considerably lowered our opponent averages since they basically had G5 level rankings on offense and defense.
........................LSU opp avg.............UGA opp avg
Scoring offense...........47..................74
YPG..........................39..................73
YPP...........................36..................61
Scoring defense...........65..................37
YPG allowed..................78..................41
YPP allowed..................85..................39
Here are the numbers vs common opponents (Vandy, UF, AU, TAMU). LSU played Auburn and Florida at home. UGA played Auburn on the road after they had a bye week, played Florida on a neutral field. Both played Vandy on the road and TAMU at home. The main differential game was vs TAMU, which may have been partially due to schedule. LSU played Arkansas before TAMU, Georgia played Auburn before TAMU. TAMU played USCe at home before UGA, played UGA in Athens before LSU.
...................................LSU.................UGA
Avg Points scored.........45.3...........23.5
Avg YPG......................543............347
Avg YPP......................8.0............5.5
Avg Points allowed........23.3...........12.5
Avg YPG allowed...........322............277
Avg YPP allowed...........4.4............4.3
Avg Score differential....22.............11
Avg YPG differential......221............70
Avg YPP differential......3.6............1.2
One other interesting fact about our 2019 schedule. No P5 team we played had a strong opponent the week before they played UGA. Vandy-open, Notre Dame-bye then New Mexico, Tennessee-bye, USCe-bye, UK-bye then Arkansas, UF-bye, Missouri-bye, Auburn-bye, TAMU-bye then USCe, GT-NC State (whose only P5 victory this year was Syracuse) which was played on Thursday night so they had 9 days. I wouldn't be surprised if nearly every P5 team we played had analysts and maybe coaches working two weeks preparing for UGA, with the exception of GT.
