“created the genre that led to the Dukes of Hazard.“
I’ve read this sesveral places in the last couple of days but it isn’t entirely accurate. DOH was based on a movie that predated Smokey and The Bandit by a couple of years. Moonrunners was the basis of DOH and it was predated by an almost identical movie made in the 1950s......there is no doubt though that box office success of Smokey probably lead to Dukes.....

Bandit Trivia:Can anyone name the Atlanta area restaurant where Sheriff Justice orders the "Diablo and Dr.Pepper"?
An old hickory house in Forest Park sort of behind the farmers market I think.
The warehouse in Texarkana was also in Forest Park ( or Jonesboro?)and for some reason had a neon Coors sign for years before it was in the movie.
The place where Jerry reed ran over the bikers rides was in McDonough....had some good BBQ back in the day...also the scene in the rain where Bandit hides behind a building while the cops go by is the square in McDonough....my mom was there when it was filmed and still swears Burt winked at her LOL!
Burt Reynolds was the man no doubt. I’m surprised his life isn’t scrutinized as politically incorrect today.....not a lot of famous people who men idolize and women fantasize about today in the same person.....
