Wallace's is delicious. Went there a few months ago when I was in town visiting family. The pulled pork was great and I love their sauce.

Wallaces in Austell might be a better choice, unless your customer likes Turners. Turners(Beaver Creek)is a small joint & finding a seat might be iffy...

Wallaces is N. of I-20 about 3 miles. just take Thornton Rd. 2 miles to HWY.78 (think the sign says Veterans memorial Hwy) turn right & it's a mile on the right...

Wallaces BBQ is outstanding also...

Watkinsville, Hot Thomas
Danielsville, Zeke's I think

No good bbq in Athens proper. Fresh Air sucks, Harry's sides are great but the meat isnt great. I havent been to the shack on lexington. Weird hours, co-owned by same owner of toccoa bbq that was shut down for some nasty shite.

ETA- decent bbq at Ga Theater of all places, but no longer ran by White Tiger.

A friend of mine offered to pay for me to finally open a good bbq place in athens, so i crunched the numbers for him.... No dice. Opening a business in athens aint like it used to was.

Try the Rooters place on Whitehall. I've had the pulled pork and a stuffed, smoked quail special, both were very good. They have some good sauces too.

Daddy D'z in Atlanta, or GTFO. Matt's is amateur hour in Dixie.

The Ribs I had at Daddy D'z were literally the worst I have ever had at a restaurant. Keep in mind, I've only been once, and I may have gone on the wrong day or got a bad batch, but it was enough to make me not want to go back. I'll give them another shot since you swear to them.

Some of my observations:
Dave Poes: I always get BBQ chicken but their pork and brisket are really good. Corn muffins are amazing. THE MAC AND CHEESE IS THE BEST ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH. I shite you not. I need to go change my pants now. They also have a dish where they blend brunswick stew and mack and cheese. Can't remember what it's called.

Fat Matt's: Ribs are excellent and chicken is too. Awesome atmosphere with live Jazz. I'm a huge fan of their sauce. It think it goes really well well with BBQ chicken.

Fox Brothers: This is Texas BBQ so naturally beef will be their strong suit. Best brisket in ATL IMHO. Those Jalapeno poppers are fire too.

Heirloom: Solid. Brisket is very good. They put an asian zing on some of their meats and sauces but some are pretty normal.

Williamson Brothers: Really really really good sauce. Meats are Meh.

Don't go to the Dreamland BBQ in marietta/roswell area. It's okay at best.

Fresh Air has excellent pork with a great sauce to compliment.

BBQ restaurants should really be categorized by what they excel at. because it makes a world of difference.

BubbaQ is pretty good here in Jasper and in Woodstock. BigUns BBQ on 515 between Jasper and Ellijay is my favorite in the area.

Seems like there was a period when the owner was sick and not overseeing everything and the quality dropped off - I've heard something similar to what you said. Yes, go back and try it again.

I'm gonna have to try this one when we go up that way.

Is it better than Colonel Poole's? I like their stew but their pulled pork is too watery for my liking.

I am not a huge lover of BBQ

Anyone know of a good place in the Gwinnett, Hall, Barrow area? Everywhere I used to love has closed down now and I'm stuck with just chains because I don't have time to go searching.

There is a place in Auburn I have heard good things about, but they have odd hours and I haven't been able to get by there to check them out.

A few people have suggested Hometown in Lawrenceville and Thank the Lard in Bufford.

This is another question that should fall seperate from how good the actual BBQ is (pulled pork is BBQ for all you heathens that think otherwise).

How good is the Brunswick Stew?
