What is it, the entire month of July is a dead period for on campus visits? I'm sure Kirby and Co will be working the phones nonstop, but I can't imagine that there will be a lot of movement till kids can get back in Athens.
Correct. I believe they can talk/text. but no personal contact.

I've heard the same. After the dead period we should get some good news....hopefully. With us taking a smaller class Kirby is making sure we get the right kids committed, and i can respect that.
Wouldn't be at all surprised to get DJ Daniel and maybe 1 or 2 more soon.

Taking 24. Still haven't gotten 24th on campus from last class

I really think it's less about small class size and more about recruiting much higher caliber kids.
The elite players tend to have longer recruitments.
For this reason I advise not getting bent out of shape over rankings right now. A stable full of three stars will give you headlines in July. Hand selected 5/4 stars get you to the top of the list on signing day.

Taking 24.

I understand what you are saying, and i am not saying you re wrong, but Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State, who will probably sign elite classes all have more players than us committed. However, from what Americus said, it might not be about class size at all. In fact, it probably isn't about the coaches controlling when the commits drop, but when the kids want to commit.

I'm not worried at all. After the 2017 class I pretty much assume that Kirby knows what he is doing. not just because we had the #1 class, but because he reeled in so many players thought to be headed in other directions.

Talked to an old teammate of mine at a memorial service for our old head coach on Friday. He’s a coach at Marietta now and, no big surprise, but he thinks Arik Gilbert winds up at UGA, which he stressed was “AT THE MOMENT”. We all know that feelings and decisions of 16, 17, and 18 year olds can change at the drop of the hat. Marietta just won a 7-on-7 tournament where they played like 10 games or something crazy in the span of a couple days so everyone was worn out. In the championship game, they basically just had Arik Gilbert jog down the field every play and snag a jump ball. Said it pretty much worked every time and won them the game. He also said that he doesn’t believe Harrison Bailey ends up at UGA. He also said that Ramel Keyton (UT commit) is better than the recruiting services are giving him credit for; he said if UT struggles to throw the ball or doesn’t throw it enough, he thinks that Keyton could flip to Auburn or Florida. Keyton apparently doesn’t have any interest in UGA. He doesn’t think BJ Ojulari is as good as his brother, but he’s still a freak athlete. UGA was, not surprisingly, his guess for Ojulari.

I was sorry to see Friday pass. He was a quality person and coach.
Gilbert will be one hell of a TE. Honestly, I wasn't that impressed with him and the Ojulari boys as d-linemen last year when I saw them play. Harrison Bailey is the real fricking deal though but I'm pretty sure he grew up a Florida fan, although he doesn't fit their style of offense now. Keyton may be ranked a few spots lower than he could be.

Kid is a monster. If we boat race LSU at that dump this year gotta wonder if he flips.

quote:I've also heard Gilbert is leaning strongly toward Georgia right now. From what I understand we are looking at him as a TE. I almost kind of hate to hear that, the way we use TE's. They are basically here to block with a few passes from time to time. Someone with his ability, imo, could be utilized elsewhere. Read a couple of articles about the 7 on 7 that said the same as your buddy.
, but he thinks Arik Gilbert winds up at UGA,
quote:Hearing we are not pushing hard for Bailey, but Max Johnson appears to be our target at this time. We all know that could change, but Johnson is our QB target for now. If Americus is still around he can confirm or deny.
He also said that he doesn’t believe Harrison Bailey ends up at UGA.
quote:A lot of the Auburn fan base still think they are going to flip Haselwood, and they are looking at several WR's. I doubt Keyton is a take for them, but I also don't think Haselwood is going anywhere. He has visited Auburn a lot, but he has several close friends there. If there is one thing people need to learn is close friends do not give you a huge boost in recruiting.
he thinks that Keyton could flip to Auburn or Florida.
I really don't see Haselwood going anywhere....but Auburn thinks they are getting everybody, so....

Is OP officially off the table?

Officially? no. We will continue to recruit him hard, and hopefully flip him, as will other teams, I'm sure. However, he is recruiting hard for Auburn right now trying to get other recruits to go there, so chances of flipping him seem to be going down as time wears on.
That said, if anybody can flip him, it would be Kirby.
If we miss on him, I could be very happy with the other LB targets we have and have a great shot at signing.

OP is scheduled to make multiple visits during the season. He is still listening.

UGA is putting in the effort to flip LSU rb Tyrion Davis
He seems pretty solid to LSU, but would love to get him. At this point who are we likely to land at RB? Our top targets, Sanders, Cain, Emery, and Davis all seem to be trending elsewhere at the moment.
