My question is...this kid hasn't even played a yr on the OL right? If he's that big whats to stop him from playing DLine. Who knows...the kid could be the next V. Wilfork. Making commercials in Levi overalls

Worked at that one in high school. I had one in Montezuma

Getting blown up every play. Not trying to be a smart arse. Seems unlikely. Tallest nose tackle in NFL history was 6'4. Haven't seen his tape, but that's left tackle or bust height.
I wouldn't tell him he couldn't do anything btw. That's a monster. He should try wrassling.

Seems like a decent developmental back up plan if Hill goes to the Barn. Crazy to think how tight numbers are going to end up this year. Definitely a new era

Mentioned on another board, but Scout apparently reporting that UGA leads for Jordan Davis - 4* DT out of NC. 6'6" and 300lbs... haven't had a chance to review his footage, but seems odd given trend with Robert Cooper. I can't imagine we take more than 3 DTs in this class would we (unless one of the DTs is seen to be more of a hybrid DE/DT)? Right now we already have Wyatt and Walthour committed. Seems like we would take one out of Cooper/Trout/Barmore... not sure where Davis would fit in... The coaches have a handle on this I'm sure, but just weird unless I'm missing something. Am I off base?

Take all, let them compete, keep the best, sign transfer for the rest to any non- sec school.

Trickier now that the hard limit per year is 25 with no more back-counting. For us it will be 24 max this year because of Marvin's blue shirt. Very real possibility that we will end up turning away a player this year who would have been one of the top 4 or 5 guys in some of our previous classes

That works if we have a ton of open spaces, but let's look at space available without any attrition of current commits (for those not paying attention, let's avoid discussing and/or speculating who may or may not end up included in this class - it may be likely, but it's just unnecessary and we're a classier bunch than that.)

quote:

Current commits - 16
QB - 1
RB - 1
WR - 2
TE - 1
OG - 1
OT - 1
DE/OLB - 3
DT - 2
DB - 3
K - 1

This would leave 8 open spots assuming no one can be back-counted into Wyatt's spot from last season due to Marvin's blueshirt.

quote:

Offense: 3-4
Gotta assume there is minimum of one spot open for OL, probably 2 (Salyer + Hill/Faalele)

Luke Ford/Tommy Tremble - probably only room for one *additional* TE to the existing class.

James Cook - +1 RB... if he doesn't commit, probably unlikely to fill that spot with another RB if I had to guess?

quote:

Defense: 4-7?
DT - previously mentioned... some combination of Trout/Barmore/Cooper/Davis - can't imagine we take more than 1, *max* 2 additional DTs to current class numbers.

DE/OLB - Gotta at least have space for 2 - hopefully Adam Anderson and Otis Reese... From there, what do you do with KJ Henry, Micah Parsons, and/or Channing Tindall if they express interest to pick the dawgs (not saying it will happen, but it's not out of the realm of possibilities)? Gotta find room I suppose at that point :/

DB - Seems that we would like one more lock down CB if we can get it (Campbell being first choice, Frierson a possibility though), unsure if we would take another, but people keep pointing to a possible Tyreke Johnson commit and we are still at least entertaining Trey Dean's interest as Tennessee struggles. Maybe +2 slots here?

Adding all that up, I could reasonably see that being 7-11 spots needed with a pretty conservative estimate on guys looking to #committotheG - Guess that's why Kirby gets paid the big bucks though.

no more back-counting

Have asked elsewhere and still not gotten a solid answer. Have you seen any link that confirms this is definitely the case? I've seen several articles written this season that reference back counting in terms of recruiting this year.

I'm not so sure Fields is a take at this point. We have two 5 star QBs as it is. Let's save that spot for Faalele!

Nice breakdown. As you said, I think we have two more definite LB spots (Reese, Anderson), but if any of Micah Parsons, KJ Henry, Tindall want in, you don't turn away that type of talent. One thing I've seen mentioned in a few spots is the possibility of gray shirting Condon (season ending injury) to help free up a spot in the short term.

DB is the spot where I think it will get tight. Current commits are S - Rachad Wildgoose and CB - Chris Smith. Assuming that they are both solid, I think we have two more spots and would ideally like to use both on true corners given the number and quality of safeties and tweeners we took last cycle. No clue what the team board looks like, but if I had to guess, I would assume

1. Tyson Campbell
2. Gilbert Frierson
3. Isaac Taylor Stuart
4. Israel Mukuamura (spelling definitely wrong)

I don't buy that we are back in it for Trey Dean simply because I think if he had been a priority that he would have never committed to UTjr and would be on our commit list. I think Tyreke Johnson is one of the difficult choices that will have to be made. Great athlete and great safety prospect. Not sure he is a corner at the next level despite his stated intentions. As such, I think he along with dean probably isn't a top priority, and I would assume that the staff is going to shoot for the moon on the elite corner prospects and let the chips fall where they may.

Good call on ITS and IM... didn't include them as I haven't had a good deal of insight on how much interest they have in us, but could easily see them being takes if they wanted to be.

I think Faalele actually physically requires two spots to take.

New rules actually only allow each school to sign a certain total number of pounds per year. Do you want 1 Faalele or 3 Akhil Crumptons?

That's why the coaches get the big bucks....tough decisions.

Shiiiit... We picked the wrong OL coach then given his penchant for massive humans on the OL... Hell, if our coaches pounds count against us, we were in trouble at jump with Chaney and Pittman... not to mention the jacked crew running our S&C program now.

The new rankings will be pounds per star. If you dare take a big guy, he better be a 5 star!
