At this point, my wish list is Mecole, Robertson, Brown, Ben Davis, Mack Wilson, and Nauta. If we got all of them I wouldn't really care who else we sign as long as we close on all the commitments we currently have.

That"s a nice list, but I wouldn't count on Ben davis or Mack Wilson. Wish I were more confident, but I just don't see us getting either one of them. If we are not careful, we could lose Brown. I think we will still pull him, but Auburn is putting a big push for him. I am hoping keeping Rocker will keep Brown with us.

I'm still hopeful on Whaley too

Agree. Definitely have a better shot at Davis, but getting either of them would be a pleasant surprise. Will be real curious to see what we hear on him after the dead period.

You think he gone without Brown?
Posted on 12/22/15 at 10:56 am to DanTheDawg
Yeah he's gone. I have a terrible knack for saying stuff like that 5 min before news breaks to the contrary

who was the recruit KS and TB visited early on and the recruit said how important it was for TB to be on staff still?

It was Whaley in Texas.

Yes I believe it was Whaley also. He also seemed like he had half a foot out the door even as he was committing, so I don't think retaining CTB would have made a difference in the end.
That was a commitment that was a surprise to most.

Some updates from 247:
Kirby has been in touch with JUCO RB Justin Crawford about visiting Athens in Jan. He was just named JUCO player of the year - personally would love to have him.
Holyfield was interviewed about Thomas Brown's departure and said he has had a lot of contact with Kirby, and that he has known for a bit that Brown was leaving. Went on to say he trusts Kirby to hire the right guy, and wouldn't make any rash decisions before the hire is made. Sounded like he has a good head on his shoulders.

well that sure sounds like a positive.
eta: where is he named that? I'm looking at 247's juco rankings and he's ranked 41st.

Would be nice to have a verteran type backup to go along with Holyfield. Crawford graduated in 2014 with Chubb and Sony.

this is the one i was thinking of....
Willie Clay's comments about Thomas Brown - who last we checked was the only coach on the current staff being followed by Smart's twitter account.
How does this all bode for Clay's planned early enrollment status? It's still in the works, according to his father, and one apparently retained coach is helping ease the transition.
"He was getting ready to sign financial aid," Clay said of his son's plan. "We had the papers, and we were getting ready to sign them after the Georgia Tech game. Obviously, with everything happening, we decided to hold onto them. We had already done a lot of the stuff. It was good to get a chance to meet Coach Smart. Him retaining Coach (Thomas) Brown is very important to our comfort level. Coach Brown has recruited us for the past year, so it's good to know he's still going to be around."
Is Brown a lock to return to Athens? For the Clays, it's certainly trending that direction.
"I think so," Clay said of Brown's status. "I would imagine. I wouldn't imagine he'd be riding around with the head coach and not be there. That'd be some kind of relationship. I did get the feeling that he would be around."

How does B-Mac leaving hurt us with recruits, or at this point with all the staff changes does it even have much of an impact?
Posted on 12/23/15 at 1:18 pm to SumterCoDawg
Probably not much. Maybe Randrecous Davis.
Holyfield is waiting to see who the RB coach is.
ETA: It has been assumed that BMac was leaving

we've lost just about every coach that has recruited our current class, so that surely doesn't help. Pretty much gonna boil down to how mcuh recruits like UGA/Kirby.
