Have a friend (w 2 kids) who just moved to West Monroe (will be working in Ruston and Calhoun) im admittedly not too familiar with N La outside of shreveport. Any suggestions of the best outdoor activities and things for kids to do I could pass along would be appreciated.

ouch...

do they fish or hunt? there are plenty of options for that if that's their interest.

For any type of hiking/camping, Arkansas isn't too far for a weekend trip and has some nice areas.

Slim pickings baw. I moved from there a little over a year ago after spending my entire life near Monroe/NELA. For the kids I would say get them involved in some activities to meet some other kids like youth soccer, flag football, etc.

Landry’s Vineyard on a concert night might not be bad. They usually have a tractor and trailer for the kids to ride around the vineyard in. Lots of wine and people to mingle with for the adults.

LA Tech is in Ruston so any of their activities are fun. Basketball, tailgating and football, baseball, etc.

Lake D’Arbonne and even Lake Claiborne are where many of the locals go for being outside and on the water. Get a camp and a boat. Or just drive up there and see for yourself.

Lincoln Parish Park has wonderful biking trails, swimming area on the lake with sand as a beach, etc.

Tons of places to fish. If fishing isn’t a hobby, make it one.

Great golf options too around the area.

If they have enough money, join Squire Creek Country club.. tons of activities both indoor and out. Great social climate and easy to meet people.

And yeah, being so close to Arkansas and Shreveport opens up to endless options.
