You might be right. First, I agree with Buzzbee for those reasons and some more I guess I have a hard time understanding why he would do this right now and only 1 game into the season. Does he have a plan if they got rid of Sumlin right now? Is he going to back putting Mazzone or Chavis as the interim.

I am ready for Sumlin to go as well. Been ready since the Kyler Murray fiasco. On Sunday night I didn't want him to be employed by the end of the day on Monday. Someone on this board asked who the interim would be. Actually a good question.

As a BOR member if you come out with something like this after 1 game you better have a good plan on what to do aferwards.

I would make Banks the interim and fire both Mazzone and Chavis along with Sumlin.

That's a waste of money, it would hurt our recruiting, and it will cause utter chaos within the team.

It's just better to wait until late November at this point.

What could possibly hurt our recruiting worse than retaining a coaching staff responsible for the 2nd worst choke job in college football history?

Well for starters, not having a coaching staff is going to make it hard to recruit (see Baylor's pathetic class last year). Also, Sumlin isn't a terrible recruiter so he will build a decent class for us (at minimum) by the end of the season. At that point, any incoming coach has a class to work on retaining instead of chasing players who have committed elsewhere. Sure, some players will decommit, but at least we won't have an empty class like Baylor did.

You just need to chill out with the "damn the torpedoes" mentality. Firing Sumlin now does more harm than good. This isn't the NFL.

Firing Sumlin now

prevents him from ruining the players any more than he already has. In addition, it removes his overall fecal touch from the program and allows an interim coach to at least maintain direction while looking for a new coach. Finally, it officially makes the job open instead of rumors and speculation the worse the season gets.

What Buzbee is doing is twofold:

1. It's forcing the other Regents to either stake their reputation to Sumlin's or distance themselves from him.

2. It calls out Mendoza and Foster for their role in the debacle of a contract.

How is he going to ruin them? By trying to coach and work on their techniques???

Sumlin has had 5 years to do that. He's not about to start right now. Trust me.

And what direction is that? Where players start doing "hood" things because their interim coach is just that...an "interim" coach. Do you not remember the 2007 Alamo Bowl?

Or is it the direction where we give our competitors four months to swoop in and scavenge our recruiting class? Because having an interim coach for an entire season worked out so well for Baylor! amirite?

You act like we won't start searching for a replacement until we fire Sumlin. This is A&M. We fired Sherman via phone while he was recruiting! College coaching is an evil industry. I'm sure our AD will be in contact with a few agents feeling the waters on the down low.

And if you really think hiring an interim is the only way to get a head start on available coaches, then I present to you Exhibit A; LSU and interi...err full time HC Ed Orgeron.

You should chill for a minute or two. We will have a coach you can bitch about by mid December. It's definitely not going to be the guy you want, so your schtick will rinse and repeat.
