yeah, that's been so weird to me. We've been totally destroyed in ETX for a decade until Sumlin. Through the 80-90s we owned the area. The last time we were pulling ETX kids consistently some guy named Kevin Sumlin was recruiting it for us

But happily since he returned we've come back into the piney woods and become a factor and nabbed guys like Golden and Pope. Hopefully with the '15 class we can own it.

tmc have you heard any news on Hoza recently?

he's back in his HS coaches good graces. He's passing classes.

The way it was explained to me is he is more Golden than Griffin. Last season both were big grade risks. But Griffin had low standardized test history so they didn't think he had much shot. Golden just had shitty grades and hung out with the wrong crowd (with is why he transferred from EF to Carthage). Golden took the SAT or ACT or whatever in Dec iirc and did well enough that he was no longer an issue provided he passed his classes.

We think Hoza could be more in that boat. He's not dumb, he just hasn't applied himself to this point. But until he takes a test, it's really all speculation.

I know next to nothing as I'm not sure I've heard either name til now. I'll ask though. West Mesquite is just pumping out talent these days

OK tmc94...since you seem to be the resident expert on our recruits (sorry if I offended anybody) - who do you think we end up with and how many do you expect us to take/get. I realize this is mid October but would like yours - or anybody's opinion.

It's funny watching our sides talk about Mack. Check out our RB.

it's no different than the million threads Ags make on whomever. I'm sure when the word breaks that Tony Brown will be in town that there will be threads everywhere saying we have a shot. Look at the dumb threads about Speedy's hoodie. It's just the way things are

And honestly these are 16, 17, 18-year old guys. Any of them could change their mind in an instant. We've seen it happen before and we'll see it again.

I just post a lot. Don't mistake me for an expert

I don't like to guess on what guys on going to do. I can tell you how we feel about them but predicting, I'll leave that for Miss Cleo

We'll likely sign between 22-24.

Fair enough.... OK I'll try to speculate a bit...

We'd (the coaching staff) would have to be disappointed if we don't get the following - 247sports ranking:

Myles Garrett - 5* - 99
Frank Ichenacho - 4* - 96
Qualen Cunningham - 4* - 94
Avery Gennesy - 4* - 94
Ed Freeman - 4* - 90

Although Nacho is so new that he could become overwhelmed by all the attention so late in the game.

That would put us at 19 (assuming everybody qualifies and doesn't decommit) with anywhere between 3-5 remaining targets being the following:

Speedy Noil - 5* - 99
Gerald Willis - 5* - 98
Braden Smith - 4* - 95
Kenny Young - 4* - 93
Casey Tucker - 4* - 90
Nick Gates - 3* - 88

I just can't bring myself to put Frazier in that list as I think he goes to Arky...honestly - it seems like most of these guys above are long shots with the exception of Young if Clifton Garrett commits to LSU...and he may still be a longshot. Anybody else have anybody to add/subtract from the list?

I wouldn't count Ced Collins in the numbers. It's starting to look unlikely he ever plays football again. I don't think he'll sign but he'll be given a scholarship to A&M in some capacity (I think to get a medical he'd have to count in the 25 numbers and so we'll find another way to handle it).

- another DB. We want Jamal Adams or Steven Parker but may consider some alternatives if those start to slip away

- another HS olineman. We're still trolling for a center. It may be Gates actually but if we miss on him I think we still take one. The loss of Aguilar is going to force our hand here just from a numbers perspective

- another JUCO OT. It's great that Ogbuehi is saying he's returning but honestly we need depth. We're redshirting Stuckey but by doing so, we don't have enough scholarship guys to fill out a 2-deep. If you want to redshirt all the freshmen (and we will), you need someone to fill in in the mean time. It's even better if he can compete to start. I think we need 5 tackles that you are playing for 2 spots at all times to account for injuries.

- a MLB. We've made it a habit to cross-train LBs at 2 spots (ex. Claiborne WLB/MLB, Mastro MLB/SLB) to give us more flexibility but we really only have 2 natural MLBs on campus (Mastro, Chevis). Of the 3 you are projecting, Hoza is really the only one that could be a plus MLB imo just because of frame (he could go anywhere but think he's a natural SAM). We need to build that MLB pipeline so we aren't ever forced to start a freshman again. Losing Richmond and Richardson screwed us and we need a pipeline so that doesn't happen again. Get em in. Get em redshirted and build their body up so we aren't trying to tackle the Yeldons and Hills of the world with guys fresh out of high school. We like Whitley (Bama commit) and we're still talking but I think we likely move on Sizelove (KSU commit)

You make a good point with Ced...

Whatever happened with Aguilar...I know he wasn't in camp at some point but I haven't heard a thing?

With respect to MLB- we need Young is a bad way but I don't think he has a commitable offer from LSU (could be wrong) though it looks likely that it would be ... especially if he started really leaning our way?

Thoughts on Adams or Parker - how warm are they on us as I still thought they were solid Florida/OU?

back injury. Pretty sure he's going to retire

I'm going to say something fairly controversial...Young may not be the guy we want. He's very productive as a HS LBer but he's not the physical specimen that you want in the middle. We definitely need production. That's a nice quality. But we might prefer to grab a guy with better measurables and redshirt him. I actually believe that's the ongoing debate - production vs potential.

There is some concern that Chevis might be a ways away still. He was just so raw coming in. I think the question we have to determine is are we comfortable next year with Mastro at MLB and Claiborne moving back to the middle in a pinch, or do we need another guy that is more ready today?

Our staff doesn't think we're out of it on Adams. I don't know why. My guess is that they are getting played because Adams tells everyone he loves them. But who knows...if UF's season goes south from here (and it could) that might really make him think.

Parker on the other hand seems to have a genuine interest. He went to Arkansas as a guest of UA but he's not really considering them. It was just a relatively close game he could come watch us play. He's never been to Kyle for a game but I believe he's got an OV planned for the Vandy or MSU weekend. I think we have a puncher's chance there

got a big bag of nothing really.

Was just told they are guys we are keeping an eye on and that guys like that are invited to every game. They often invite teammates of high priority prospects because they are more likely to come in with groups of friends or one of them is the ride for the other. I'd guess Phillips is one to keep an eye on because he's 2016 and has a 247 and Rivals profile already. But they might just be friends of DSG's who are good enough to get some attention.

Have we seriously not counted J.J. Gustafson's "grey shirt"?

With respect to MLB, we're actually ok going forward. Claiborne is getting better each week, and we get Hilliard eligible next season (I assume Chevis is redshirting)

It's Will and Sam where we have issues.

I made the Speedy outfit thread on the Recruiting Board but mainly just to troll the LSU folk. They get so rustled when it is implied that any LA target they are after might go to A&M it's just too tempting not to rile them up.

I stopped trying to predict the mind of HS recruits after Harvey Williams honestly. Tough recruiting battle and he was all set to announce for A&M and some girls apparently teased him with the War Hymn that day and he changed his mind and goes to LSU. Then he proceeds to tear us a new one for his entire career. That was long before the internet or when modern day recruiting kicked in.

I don't even read the RB here any more. It's troll city with zero useful info. But your post appears more tongue in cheek and you can tell

Some DE named Myles Garrett just committed. Hoping he's good.

We finally get to say this:

YESSIR!

It's been too damn long since the last one. This is not unexpected as previously discussed, but it's certainly feels good to get the confirmation.
