This is my line of thought, I am not gunna hit any panic buttons until i see what happens next week.
If we come out the same way then we are fricked, but If the team gets motivated and stops drinking their own koolaid then I think we will rally and still meet expectations.

Reminded me of the Air Force game heavily

Very good comparison.

I'm glad this was a Thursday game, we need the extra time to make some corrections.

Agreed
But man they were gashed

We held them under 300 total yards, I wouldn't call that gashed

Appy did an excellent job of using the motion to create a numbers mismatch and spread UT out imo. That is concerning considering UF uses quite a bit of motion in their offense. I certainly do not think those holes appeared because our D line was overpowered. They did a good job of cut blocking as well. Thank god nobody got hurt.
Gotta give them credit for a good gameplan...still, the game should never have been competitive.

I still have no idea what App State was doing on offense. They lined up all over the place.

I didn't know the number, that makes me feel better
I was just judging from the size of the holes I saw
ETA: defense definitely did a good job of bending but not breaking. And let's face it, they only scored 13 points but the D also didn't pass the eye test. Whatever that's worth

Yeah, they used a ton of formations and misdirection to run the same plays...UF tends to do the same.
Those guys will have a good year.

I'm sorry guys but are we really gonna try to make that performance look better bc they used "multiple formations" and "misdirection"?
That's an insult to us and our team

I'm not trying to make the game look better, I'm just telling you that defense was not the problem.
Posted on 9/2/16 at 1:43 pm to Vols&Shaft83
That's fine just don't suggest that part of whatever points they gave up was bc of multiple formations and misdirections like Goulet said
Tensions are high and you guys are good posters btw, I'm not looking forward to becoming our version of Bench Mcilroy

Once we went to a nickel and took fricking Kenny Bynum out, App State did not score...

What? Are you suggesting that yards and points given up aren't predicated on what the offense does? All I said was that our defense seemed to struggle with the motion and being spread out which seemed to be pretty obvious from where I was watching.
Tbh the defense did not play all that bad.
No need to qualify your opinion, bro. This is a board where we should be able to discuss and disagree. I personally like discussion. This is our Safe Space.

We will not face another offense this season that plays with that style and uses so much cut blocking. I'm really not too concerned at all about the defense. Given the circumstances, I think they played well outside of the first couple of drives.

Agreed. Defense will be fine and is plenty athletic.
The offense and play calling OTOH was just awful, although I think that was partly by design.

I kept scratching my head wondering why Dobbs was never keeping it on the read option and why he had no designed runs. I thought Debord learned his lesson about that after the Arkansas game last year. I'm hoping Butch was trying to keep some stuff put up until VT or Florida.
Either way, get better play out of the OL and the offense will look better as a whole. I'm not making excuses for Dobbs but there is not a quarterback in the country that will look good when he's got that much pressure in his face as soon as the ball is snapped.

Yeah our OL was getting whipped against their rush which is inexcusable. You made the point that our guards didnt pull much which is true.
Tbh though, Debord has shown a tendency to stick with those runs and shite even when they aren't working. I mean, I get what they're designed to do, but god damn, make an adjustment sometimes. Dudes were open (or could have been) in the middle of the field all night. I expect to see more I-form and Hurd and Kamara in the backfield and to throw the fricking ball on 1st down every now and then instead of Hurd left and Hurd right every time.
Edit: I think someone like Byrd can start doing damage on drags and underneath routes too. I personally like the bunch formations and hope to continue seeing those.
