Honestly, I think this Georgia squad is the best I've seen since becoming a fan. However, like all of the rest, they have their glaring flaws, especially at this part of the season.

So this Tennessee squad is young, not too much depth, but Butch Jones has brought an excitement that is easily indentifiable if you simply look at the recruiting rankings.

...now Butch Jones is deploying the grey jerseys against the Dawgs at home?

I think it's a brilliant move for a few reasons:

1. Georgia is emotionally exhausted.

This is the toughest stretch of games I've ever seen to the beginning of the season for Georgia since I've been a fan. The "gauntlet" term used to describe the first four games is over, and we're victorious. There is an undeniable sigh of relief, and knowing this squad, we're likely to rest on our laurels, and just not show up in Knoxville.

A lack of focus can result in coverage breakdowns, special teams mistakes, interceptions...anything that can keep Tennessee in this ballgame.

2. Our defense has struggled. We did an okay job of stopping LSU's running attack, but we essentially had two weeks to prepare for LSU with a BYE week and North Texas.

Yikes.

Our defense is young, but in my opinion, they are learning slower than anticipated. Focus during the offseason was unparalleled, and there were a lot of early enrollees that played in our Spring game. But we're just playing bad, specifically in the secondary.

I don't know. For the past few years, our defense has given up a lot of points, despite Jarvis Jones, Justin Houston, Alec Ogletree, and other talents. There were games where the defense was supposed to "catch on" and "grow up." However, we never really met our potential, and performed poorly in several games.

Noticeably against Tennessee last year in a shootout where Bray almost beat us, and Tennessee was surprisingly able to run successfully against the Georgia defense.

How can I not be worried?

Prediction:

Tennessee is going to be excited with those slick grey jerseys. You guys play good defense, and know how to run the football. One of the best offensive line units in the nation. I expect Worley to complete passes against this struggling Georgia secondary. Josh Smith and 'Pig' Howard are good players.

However, success depends on the ability for Tennessee to run the ball successfully. Marlon Lane and Neal are solid backs.

But if the Georgia defense has anything going for them, it's the play of they're front seven, which also happens to have a lot more depth than Tennessee has. Tennessee scores points early, but I think the Dawgs pull away eventually.

41-24 Georgia.

UPDATE: Starting FS Tray Mathews likely out against the Vols.

The main problem for Tennesseee is the mindset of the players, If Butch can get these guys to focus ONLY in the task at hand, then we have a chance to upset somebody, if he fails to do so, it will be a very long year.

Tennessee wins against Georgia if: our players fight every second of the game, if our players focus only in the present, if our players secure the ball during the whole game. If...

Butch Jones is quality. Can't speak for Jancek and Martinez, but Butch knows how to play and recruit. He's been a great hire thus far, IMO.

Also, you UT fans need to remember Saban's first year. Recruits great, and gets beat by Louisiana–Monroe.

How did that story end?

Yeah, but the bama fans were all united behind Saban because he had already proved that he could win in the SEC, Our fans are still divided about Butch, he won't enjoy the kind of support that Saban got until he proves that he can overachieve at Tennessee. It is tough, but such is life.

Our upset game is USCjr. I see no chance of stopping UGA this week.

We make way too many mistakes to beat a team like UGA. They would have to pull a WKU and we would have to play over our heads to even have a shot at the end.

we will keep it manageable during the first half (very similar to the Florida game) but about midway through the third it will be out of hand. Whether it gets worse or we fight back will depend on our defenses ability to stop y'all's run game late in the third. My money's on us falling apart like a fold up chair

at no point during the game will y'all be worried about losing it

We should but we don't, they simply have not performed up to expectations

They pass block fine but can't run block to save their lives

It's gonna be funny when next years O-line looks better than this years simply because they will have a 235lb sledgehammer behind them instead of tap dancing Neal.

they better hop on the anabolics, because our second string OL was ripped to shreds by WKU.

The OLine will only look as good as the RB makes them imo. Our line is producing the holes, Neal's vision is just shite. He leaves so many yards on the field, it's just ridiculous. Lane sees them but he's too slow to do anything with it.

Watch and see, this time next year everyone will be saying "I think we underrated UT's new O-Line a little bit". When in reality, it's just having a badass tailback that knows how to run the football.

UT misses the likes of Henry, Lewis, Cobb/Web. I am tired of the dancing around. We also need a QB worth a shite, a D that can tackle and take good angles. If Butch and hold onto this class and keep it going I have hope for the future.

I agree that a dominate running back can mask some OL deficiencies, but you need both to really compete.

So true. Hardesty is the only back I can remember in the last 7 or 8 years that runs hard like those guys. Hurd is that type of back. It's going to be refreshing, no doubt.

And yeah, if Butch can hold the class together, which I think he will, UT should be able to really address most of our issues on D quickly. I love the secondary and linebacker commits we have right now. If we land Barnett, Mosely and Hendrix to the Dlinemen we already have, we will be well on our way to a great defense.

And I'm not too concerned with the future at QB. I know he's kept Ferg/Dobbs out but I do think he's trying to protect them by not throwing them to the slaughter too early. If Butch didn't like what he has seen from them, I'd imagine he would be after a QB much harder. We went hard after 5* Cornwell and that's been about it basically for this class.

True. Maybe Tiny sticks around for another year. I do think he could use it.

That's Richt.

Our offensive line played shitty against North Texas. I expect an uprgrade from said unit.

He puts one hell of a qualifier on that statement. Even if he didn't, he's full of shite sorry but I'm off our offensive line bandwagon. Richt is grabbing at anything he can too motivate his players, and rightfully so

Every thing starts with a mindset, fix that and everything else will follow, in time.
