What is the opinion of our first ball game this coming season? I'm looking forward to it. I think it will be a solid test for our defense and hopefully a chance to see if there will be a huge drop off in offensive production from last year.

I agree that the real test will be our defensive improvement. We may not be able to win a shootout without Dobbs, Kamara and Malone. If our defense can rise up and be the "Orange Swarm" that Shoopdie-doop wants them to be, then I think we will be fine.

Injuries killed us last year, but with that it was bad assignment football that got us hemmed up. Which is on Stoops and the defensive staff.

I think operating with the leftover staff from Jancek didn't help. Hopefully with the staff shakeups, the kinks will have been worked out.

That and Butch playing micro-manager.

If Butch will let his staff do their jobs and get out of their way we might win 10 games.

CBJ seems to be a smart and genuine guy. So he has to see that his micro managing of the program is killing the W/L column. I agree that he made staff changes to let them do what they do. Hell that's what they are paid for.

I wish he would micro-manage his cliches and coach-speak or delegate post-games to someone who doesn't make us look ridiculous.

Well that is very true! I understand that he wants his athletes to be good on and off the field but I cringe every time I hear or see "Champions of Life"

Until I see something different I'm gonna assume that an Offense like GT's is gonna gash the shite out of us on the ground

Well let's hope you see what needs to be seen then! Cause after the last half of last year, I completely agree. Hoping for a lot less injuries!

He does. When he loses.

My only hope is that we make it out of chop block city with any defensive linemen still healthy...

Yep! That was about as chickenshit as it gets.

He pulls that again and he should be fired on the spot with cameras rolling.

One thing I will note...GT typically plays a weaker opponent than we do in the season opener. Why??? Because they don't want to face a talented team that has had an entire off season to focus on stopping their option attack.

Look at who they have opened against the last 5 years:

2016 - Boston College (7-6), Won 17-14...no choice in conference opponent as opener
2015 - Alcorn State (9-4), Won 69-6...FCS opponent
2014 - Wofford (6-5), Won 38-19...FCS Opponent
2013 - Elon (2-10), Won 70-0...FCS Opponent
2012 - Virginia Tech (7-6), Lost 20-17...no choice in conference opponent as opener

Compare that to who we have faced:
2016 - Appy State (10-3), Won 20-13...Sun Belt
2015 - Bowling Green (10-4), Won 59-30...MAC
2014 - Utah State (10-4), Won 38-7...Mountain West
2013 - Austin Peay (0-12), Won 45-0...FCS Opponent
2012 - NC State (7-6), Won 35-21...ACC

Sure, we have played non-P5 opponents in 4 of the years, and an FCS opponent in one...but GT has only played FCS opponents when they had any choice of who to play. The truth is, if you have all Summer to prepare for a unique offense, you have a better chance of stopping it. Georgia Tech knows this. They are better off facing opponents who have only had 1 solid week to prepare than mot of the off season.

That's a fair point but I don't see THAT much of a performance difference between the two teams at least since we have been under Butch

Regardless, my original post remains. My expectations will not change until they prove it to me on the field

Guys, it almost goes without saying.

Lose this game and this season will be derailed from the start. This game sets the tone for the season.

Not to mention the shite we will have to put up with on the rant if this is a loss.

It would suck if we are terrible this season. However, if we are really really bad, there is a chance we could be rid of Botch by the end of the year.

Then, we will need to ask ourselves, who would we be able to get to replace him?

We've seen the revenue numbers. The answer should pretty much be, "Whoever the frick we want."
