Why would an inferior like Clemson ever enter a season without a running threat as a QB?

I mean seriously. Really this almost could be applied to any team but specifically schools like that. They have no chance to achieve anything all season long before it even starts with a statue back there. I mean I believe with all the runners out there they could get one there. It really is mind blowing to think that they think they are gonna compete for championships that way.
