In MGK's case, he would have been the 4th highest rated DB in this signing class at UGA. Maybe that spooked him, maybe Kirby ran him off once he got his 5 stars locked up. This would explain why he'd be ok with a grayshirt at AnM. It could also explain why our 247 insider Rusty Mansell predicted this on Tuesday. He's a good player, I hope he does well, we're from the same town.
Edit to add-
If you count the one "ATH" in this class, that's 6 DB's that are 4 star or better, that's after the MGK flip. Super heavy DB class, I'm suprised he's the only DB flip from UGA in this class.

True, but now the talent gap from A&M to the Mississippi schools and Arkie isn't a gap it's a canyon for next year. Honestly the gap with LSU and Auburn is getting pretty big as well. A&M wasn't good enough this year to show up flat and still win because we weren't that dominant and we didn't have great QB play. Still all 4 of those games were very winnable in the 4th Quarter.
Next year A&M will have a significant upgrade on talent and the other schools will not (sans Bama). Still have to win though and there are no easy games in the SEC.

Talent alone < lesser talent + greater experience

Pretty sure MGK and Smoke have been close with Nick Williams for a while now. I'm guessing that was the biggest factor.
