We aren’t buying anyone up front relative to Bama, Ohio St, and USC right now. All our money is going into retention, the draft development and winning is getting guys in the door.

You do understand that NIL does not fall under the recruiting budget, right?

On3:

Georgia 94.35
Alabama 92.26

Maybe a trip to the eye doctor?

I gave the score from ON3. but if you want , you can look around and find some metric on some site that makes you feel better.

And this is bullsh%t.

It is part of the process now. There are way too many ambitious, competitive programs offering top tier NIL to think your particular program is somehow above it all.

RIF.

He didn't say we were not in the NIL game. he said we were not dropping big bags up front.

Look. Nobody knows what their program is doing. All we go by are media reports or insider information. If any of us claim to KNOW what is going on, you are lying.

That said, our best insider said we are playing NIL, but the majority of it is going to players once they have been in the program, and to portal kids.

Take it fwiw. I don't know and neither do you. Crap. All these experts on the Rant know more about what is going on at Georgia than they do at their own program.

And from what i've heard from UGA insiders, UGA has said they are following the OSU method because their method LAST YEAR was unsustainable.

Again, we all know the top schools are competitive on and off the field because they are finding ways to fund the top athletes. As you said, we have no idea unless we have someone on the actual inside

Interesting. What insiders have you heard from?

I mean I read it second hand from OSU people who said UGA insiders had indicated as much. They were indicating that UGA changed their NIL position for the 2024 class because what they did last year was unsustainable.

I didn't really expect you to call me out and ask me any follow ups I can go take a look and see whom they were saying was stating that

On3's average ranking....

Alabama 92.26
Georgia 91.88

The On3 ranking; not the composite of all other sites.

So not from Georgia insiders?

OSU fans.

I don't know. We do have another insider on a different site who has been amazingly good at recruiting information. Not 100%....who is? But we just got an Olineman that did not list us in his top 3 and the nsider insisted he was trolling and we were going to get his commit. He was right.

He sia we are playing the NIL game, but not as big up front to HS players. We are giving the majority of it to player retention and portal guys. We are giving some to HS players, obviously, just not a ton. Our big pitch is two titles and development, NFL Draft success and the anticipation of more titles.

Like I said. I don't know, but the guy I get my information from says that is the way it is going down, and he has been pretty spot on about all areas.

If you don't mind. If it takes too long don't worry about it. It's not really that big of a deal. We (I) sometimes get caught up in inconsequential stuff.

Honest question, and i am not trying to get a "Gotcha!"
Which do you think is more accurate? A single sites opinion or a composite put together using data from all the major sites?

All in all it really doesn't matter. Recruiting is fun to follow, but but it's what the teams do with those recruits that matter. Both teams (Alabama and Georgia) have done pretty well lately.

ETA
I should also admit that I went by the ON3 score and not recruiting ranking. I'm not even sure how they calculate the score or what it signifies.

Well they said it was from UGA insiders! I'm not gonna spend all day verifying everything someone says.

Yes, but it still shows you are spending more than others.

I also have family that handles the finance NIL work at Georgia and I can tell you UGA spends as much as anyone. Don’t know why y’all are defensive about that tho?

I get that. But I also wouldn't say I got the information from a Georgia insider, either.

Look at it from my perspective. What if I said an Ohio State insider said Ohio State was cheating and contacting recruits during dead periods, and then I admitted it actually came from some Georgia fans claiming it came from an OSU insider?

Again. If it's too much trouble or will take too long, don't worry about it. I wouldn't want to spend a lot of my time doing that.

We spend more on retention of players than we do high school recruiting. Not saying we don’t pay out the gate but if it’s strictly an NIL kind of player we steer away from them with the belief they’ll be harder to retain.

Correct. But this is not unique to UGA. All the major players are doing this.

Yeah from what he tells me it sounds like anyone who has an actual chance to win a title does it. So yea I guess your right, a small handful lol

And IMHO they need to fix this because college football is becoming a league of about 6-8 teams every year. If that many.

Which is why I was stoked that UGA won in 21 before all the legal buying of players and the portal was a major impact

Which is why I wanted OSU to win SO BADLY last season. 2022 was kind of to me the last season before all that stuff really got nuts. The 2022 season had all the NIL kids as frosh still, so it wasn't fully ingrained in the game.
