Washington has a great defense, yes. But not great enough to overcome a team like Alabama.

Impossible is a very finite word. So yes, nothing is "impossible."

But the fact that the Playoff adds an extra game in the post season makes is very close to impossible for teams like Washington, Wisconsin, or Virginia Tech to win a title.

In the old BCS, all they had to do is go undefeated in a year in which their conference was "down" and hope that other teams around the country had enough losses to get kept out of the Title Game. Then they had a 1-game shot to beat their opponent.

Now they've got to do it twice... which makes it THAT much harder.

Washington got beat by Bama pretty badly. There is no way they were going to beat them, plus also then go and beat Clemson.

So in reality, as good as they were, they weren't really all that close.
