Alabama signee Caleb Downs named All-American Bowl Player of the Year

Five-star safety Caleb Downs adds another big honor to his list of accolades this season after being named the All-American Bowl Player of the Year on Friday night in San Antonio. This after Hoschton (Ga.) Mill Creek product tallied 83 tackles, 10 pass breakups, 5 interceptions, 2 pick-sixes, 1 fumble recovery and caught 36 passes for 422 yards and 3 touchdowns, 57 carries for 389 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Downs signed with Bama on Dec. 21 before making his way to Tuscaloosa.

“The opportunity there,” Downs said. “The opportunity to be coached by the best, to play against the best. Just to be able to learn from all the great people they have there. Coach (Nick) Saban, Coach T-Rob (Travaris Robinson), to be able to learn from those guys and compete against the best players in the nation."
