Coach Jim Turner is bringing back the Maroon Goons in a big hurry.

He is a machine at turning out NFL bound OL's.

Bringing him back was the best hire of the Sumlin era.

Another than Joeckel, did any of those guys actually play for Turner? Serious question.

They all started under Turner. Crazy how stacked that line was in 11 & 12.

Momentum with OL recruits was definitely headed in the wrong direction

Jim Turner told an overlooked recruit named Mike Evans " We are going to offer you a scholarship and you are going to commit."

Jim Turner also had Jerald Hawkins from Louisiana committed until he flipped to LSU.

Thanks for the response from both of you. The man obviously has an eye for talent.

Turner was our OL coach from 2008 to 2011

His last oline in 2011 was

SO Luke Joeckel (2010-2012, 1st round, JAX)
RS-FR Jarvis Harrison (2010-2014, 5th round, NYJ)
JR Patrick Lewis (2009-2012, undrafted, SEA)
RS-FR Cedric Ogbuehi (2010-2014, 1st round, CIN)
SO Jake Matthews (2010-2013, 1st round, ATL)

So all those guys played at least 2 years for Turner. This was also the exact same line we had in 2012 in our first year in the SEC.

Germaine Ifedi, projected to be a late first or early 2nd rounder this year, was recruited by Turner (and committed to him) but never played for him.

not really. We've had more 4-stars in the last 2 classes (despite firing 2 OL coaches) than we did in Turner's entire first tour

The play on the field has been disappointing and you have to wonder if it's evaluations or coaching. Seems a bit of both but given Ifedi's draft stock, it appears evaluation may have been a real problem. Not all 4-stars are created equal

No we didn't, but people were unhappy with the last OL coach. Our fanbase overreacts a little. We probably have some of the deepest talent I have ever seen in campus.

Avery Gennessy, London, Sutherland, Lanfear, Trevor Elbert, Kellen Diesch, and the Anderson brothers were all rated 4 star recruits from at least on service.

The big reasons we are happy about Turner are that he loves A&M, he's a great position coach, and he apparently loves recruiting.
