He was available to catch passes.
I would argue there are plenty of other guys who given the option would have caught passes in Alabama’s offense.
Billingsley was good but he was hardly a difference maker.
Alabama wins the NC this year with our without him I’d argue. And that’s not a slight against him. I just don’t think he’s irreplaceable.

Nah, Billingsley was a big deal. He created a situation where the defense had to account for him, and that was a very big deal once Waddle got hurt.
When our offense has an athletic TE that forces teams to account for them AND can block it makes a big difference. Howard, Irv and Billingsley late in 2020 all did that.

Agree with the 1st part, don't agree with the 2nd part. There wasn't anyone else on our roster who has the skillset that Billingsley had, which is why it was such a big deal that he came on when he did. Tennison, Forristal, and Latu do things well, but none of them can beat coverage from a safety (or even an athletic LB). Billingsley can and did. When you stretch a defense already, having a guy who can win most all 1-on-1 matchups he is going to get is a pretty big addition.
Signing a really good, athletic tight end is definitely a "first world problem" kind of thing, but we always want to have at least 1 in stock on the roster.

I mean... I like Slade Bolden and all... but Billingsley was a huge burst to the offense after Waddle went out.
