Nico isn’t what we thought.
Not sure about that!
While Nico is young and only in his 6th career start, Heupel also has to call a better game. We are seeing the same mistakes as we seen last year with Milton. At some point you have to stop blaming the QB and starting looking at the coaching.
Alex Golesh going to USF appears to be a bigger impact on the Vols offense than we originally thought. Since he has been gone, the play calling has changed dramatically. Everyone also said Heupel offense, won’t matter. But I am here to argue that it did matter a lot. Since Golesh has been gone, our offense has took a step back.
Last night Heupel called a conservative game. He called a conservative game against Oklahoma. Now that Tennessee has a defense he is relying on them to much instead of just staying true to who he is. I never thought I would ever say this with a Heupel offense, but the offense failed the defense last night.
Heupel appears not to trust his QB and is calling a conservative game. Also they are not completely locked in during practice, and that’s in the coach. “Per Sampson” we took this week for granted and wasn’t focused during the off week”.
These things can be fixed and I think Nico is good. But Heupel is going to have to trust his QB to make plays and stop coaching to not lose rather than, coaching to win’

Nico is good, or at least he can be. But he is a freshman and has a lot to learn. I hope him and the Vols the best.
