And the highlights of other parts of Arkansas are?

Honest question about your opinion

My point was that for every "Texan" and "yankee" that is a supposed recent NWA transplant, you have an Arkansawyer from outside of NWA.

Kinda makes it silly to consider NWA "not Southern". Its not the deep south, but neither is most of Tennessee or any of Kentucky.

And I don't consider Arkansawyer pejorative. I like it better than R-Kansan.

The ouchitas are beautiful. North central Arkansas as well.

Northwest Arkansas is scenic but it doesn't stand alone, stop selling other parts of the state short.

The ouachitas are the prettiest mountains in the state, IMO.

Yeah, NWA is great, but no reason to down other parts of Arkansas. I spent time in LR and Conway and I think those areas are good living, too.

First of all, that's just my opinion. Even if I had visited every part, I can still say that NWA is the best part of this state if that's what I think. Since you think my knowledge of this state is lacking, have you seen it all? I've lived here my entire young life. While I haven't been to every nook and cranny of this state, I've been to each corner. I may have not visited towns like Blytheville, Oil Trough, or Cotton Plant, but I know they are shiteholes. NWA and probably LR are the only parts of this state that I'd like to live.

This is probably true in Fay, but I was mostly thinking of on campus. Seems like lots of Texans.

I've been to every part of the state. Just about every town. You're certainly welcome to your opinion but you shouldn't discount other parts of the state.

Like I said nwa doesn't have a lock on scenary in this state, there's some beautiful places other than nwa. Providing you avoid eastern Arkansas, that area is a shithole.

I agree, and I spent half birth-age of 13ish there before moving to Memphis.

From Conway as well.

Petit Jean is one of the most beautiful places in the state. Also, Devil's Den is one of the most beautiful places in the state. Not to mention, the Buffalo River is one of the most beautiful and fun places in the state. C'mon guys, if you want a place to hang out outdoors you really can't go wrong here.

I've been all over the state and believe NWA is the best part of the state (married a girl from Hot Springs and lived both there and the Rock) but I am proud of the whole state. There are areas with more significant challenges but have always found great people wherever I been.

Even eastern Arkansas has some beautiful areas. I've seen almost the entire state, either by 4wd vehicle, bicycle, canoe, sail boat, bass boat, airplane, or foot. There's a large network of caves throughout a large portion of the state that few people have even seen. I've been in a few of those that will blow your mind, and I'm not referring to Blanchard Springs.

There's not an area that doesn't have some great scenery.

I'd be curious to some of the caves you have been in. I was in this thing called project C.A.V.E.S. before they shut it down (it was through the AEGIS Program). We went in I think 30 or so different caves all over Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma, most of which being private and locked up to only a few people a year. Arkansas truly does have some breathtaking caves, and its a pity that most people will never get to experience them.

I went in a few back in the early 90's with a friend who has been exploring caves for many years, otherwise I would not have been comfortable with doing some of the things that we did. Many were on private land and relatively unknown. I have some pictures somewhere around I'd like to share if I can locate and scan them.

One in particular was informally referred to as "Saltpeter Cave". But if I can get a map from my spelunker friend, I can give you more details.

I'm having network problems this AM so I'm having difficulty staying online.

I've been through all of Arkansas except the Northeast side where the Missouri Bootheel is at and I-55. I always go through Arkansas if it's heading down I-40 to Memphis. US Hwy 71 to Louisiana. I-40 to Little Rock, then US 425 to Pine Bluff on my way to Louisiana, or US 65 to McGee, Dumas, to Louisiana, etc. NWA to Little Rock is by far the best part of Arkansas.

The Southern part of Arkansas south of Little Rock is more trashy and poor looking. Reminds me of North Louisiana(my birth place).

Oh and I hope Arkansas hurry and complete their half of I-49 so I can start taking that route more to Louisiana. Missouri will have I-49 completed by Dec, already putting up I-49 signs.

That's because the nicest areas are off the main thoroughfares. But I agree, if you're traveling on the main roads through some of those areas, there's not much to see.

Right of way has been acquired from Fort Smith to Texarkana, just waiting on funding. Building through those mountains is super expensive. The Bella Vista Bypass is underway at least

Hell Mizzou, don't take the "Northern and Yank" reference from the Pigs to personal. In the SEC, most of us refer to the Arky Pigs as Northerners and Yanks as well. Let's face it, North of I 40 is the end of Southern Heritage. Fayettville is as Midwestern as Joplin, Branson, St. Louis and Columbia.

Arkansas passes the only true litmus test for Southernness: What do you drink with your Burger and fries? If you say, "pop," "soda" or any variation, then you are a good-for-nothin' yankee. If you say "Coke" even if you're drinking Diet Coke, Pepsi, Sprite, Dr. Pepper, Mtn. Dew, etc, then you are a Southerner. Arkansas calls it "Coke" like the Good Lord intended.
