The ‘03 lsu Natl Championship. The arrival to Alabama and subsequent increased Alabama fan traffic. The increase in Big 10, ACC and Big 12 traffic leading up to Alabama games. Would the SECRant exist today?
When you step back and look, it is amazing how much of an impact he’s had on everything sports related down to Internet forums

It would be a lot better without you two lovebirds

Without Saban children would have gone without heat provided by the wood extracted from the corner of College and Magnolia

I agree that Auburn turned the SECr into a shitter.

Actually the invention of the Truck Nut is what really keeps TD in business. Saban helped don’t get me wrong.

ATPB is the best thing to happen to tRant.
Without a doubt.
Without a doubt.

He does have something of a point. While LSU football, like that of any Southern university, had a large fanbase, it's hard to imagine so many people getting excited enough to congregate and post in large numbers under a Hallman or DiNardo. There's really only so many ways you can say "Well, par for the course, frick it, I'm getting drunk tonight" before it becomes repetitive. A great coach, winning seasons and a national title were the perfect recipe for a massively popular internet message board devoted to the program.
On occasion, I've searched for message boards devoted to our (or sometimes other SEC program's) OOC opponents, and there are an awful lot of sad, barely-trafficked internet boards devoted to less successful programs out there. TD is a pretty spectacular success story, all thing considered.

TD started in 2001 before Saban won the NC. The only reason the SECr exists is because when Saban was hired by Bama Chicken couldn’t keep up with the amount of Bama fans that flooded the site. Saban is 100% responsible for this board. Not the site though.

I know you were responding to the OP, but it kinda comes at a tangent to my comment, so I want to emphasize that I'm arguing that Saban's tenure was a major factor in making TD as wildly popular among LSU fans as it is while so many other independent message boards devoted to other programs languish in obscurity. I don't doubt TD would be here regardless, I'm just suggesting it wouldn't be as large and active, with Les' early success in maintaining the program helping it along after Saban left.

Probably not. However, the Tiger rant is still the most trafficked board on the site. Plus the OT is, well, the OT. The thing that makes this site better than all the other ones is it doesn’t take itself too seriously. The admins aren’t a bunch of Nazi henchmen when it comes to non-LSU fans. Before the SECr came into existence we used to have the same shite over there. Chicken just decided to build the looneys their own coop.

Wise. It predates my lurking -- I think I was here around 2010/2011, roughly -- but I can't imagine how many mods it would take to keep control of the other fanbases if everyone still congregated on Tigerdroppings. Eesh.

My observation from reading this site since 2003 was that it provided a way for those of us no longer living in LA to connect to LSU sports and news. It grew less out of a coach and more out of pitiful sports reporting on LSU out of state. Sometimes no more than a paragraph. When Saban was at LSU
TD was really rather small. I saw TD grow much more in the Les Miles years when he was attracting so much national attention to the program. The SEC rant evolved when other fanbases, mainly Alabama, came in droves. Could be wrong, but thats what I remember.
