Nah, I've heard that from some people. It's definitely a little bit different.
I have a friend who can just turn on any episode of it like I can Seinfeld or the Office. I'm not nearly as gung-ho about it. However, there are certain episodes that literally make me laugh for 30 straight minutes.
It really takes off when Adam Scott and Rob Lowe join the cast.

I like the hits of Seinfeld but overall I'm not a fan. I don't Jerry Seinfeld funny at all.

Yea, I feel like it's a show where the humor is built into the characters and you don't really know the characters until a season or two in.

Jerry is by far the the least funny character
I didn’t catch it til later in life so every show had ripped it off

I need to just push through until Rob Lowe and Adam Scott get into the show. From what I hear that's when it gets good. I love Rashida Jones, Aubrey Plaza and Pratt as actors.

Paul Schneider is a main character early and it's pretty bleh. Then there is the weird portion where Lewis CK is a cop and is Amy Poehler's boyfriend, and it's just kind of there.
Once Scott and Lowe get there Andy/Aubrey picks up and Rashida Jones kind of becomes more prominent.

We had my sister and her husband down for Thanksgiving (fun COVID thanksgiving with no other relatives), and after we ate and put the kids down we were all sitting around and finally one of us was like "Aren't there like 3 New Girl Thanksgivings? We should just watch all of those".
And it was awesome.
