Programs do "die", but so do people. It doesn't mean that their accomplishments are not worth remembering or even learning from.

It 'might' matter depending on the context of how the accomplishment is presented. It absolutely doesn't count if some dumbass pussy is bragging about a program, smack talkin, etc...and the school hasn't won a championship in 50 years.

Of course not. Bragging isn't the word but maybe "bringing it up in a discussion to support your teams success"
