By concentrating on a NC, which says nothing about a division or a conference. I've said it several times, so let me say it again.
If a National Championship made a conference or a division the best, then the ACC would have been the best conference last year.

That seems to be the sticking point to your whole premise. Just because the west's best team beats the east's best team it does NOT stand to reason that the west is better than the east. Unless you are willing to concede that the east was better than the west in 2017....which falls right back to my premise. The east has shown it is as good or better than the west over the past couple of years.
You made the example. live with it. Enjoy it. And, you are the winner. You get to take the box of rocks home with you. You should have some facinating conversations.

That is in the present tense...as in the west is currently the best. I have proven with my data that the east has caught the west the last couple of years.
Therefore the west is NOT the best currently....as your title suggests.

YOU set the timeline in the title of your thread. Current. Present. Right now.
If you don't like it, change the thread title to state the west has been the best over the last 10 years, or something to that effect.
