And Less guaranteed money.... Seems like it not only protects the university but also makes sure the coach is pushing for goals. Could even do something where they would make a ton more with results. Seems like a win /win for a confident coach.

Agents versus ADs is the most lopsided rivalry in college sports history.

It’s all about keeping up and if others are offering fully guaranteed, you have to too. If you want to land someone big, I guess.

When you’re the AD of one your hometown university’s biggest rivals and know you’re eventually gonna end up at your hometown university, you Trojan horse your employer with the most one-sided contract you can get approved.

I get that but you could end on in a situation like y'all are in now... Jimbo could literally do the bare minimum and their is nothing y'all can do about it. More incentive based pay would protect the university.

Have always thought this. No reason to guarantee someone 100 mil and you have no idea what results he will provide. Motherfricker could have a mid life crisis (I’m looking at you O) and totally shite the bed

Well yeah, that’s a risk you take when signing someone to that contract.

Kelly’s contract isn’t wildly different than Jimbo’s. Could work out for LSU or could go south, but that’s the kind of thing it seems to take to move a coach like Kelly, Jimbo, Lincoln, etc.

Hell, even Venables got a fully guaranteed contract and he has never been a HC before.

Crazy times, but if you’re an AD, and the football coach you hire doesn’t work out, you’re likely out of a job either way, so might as well make a big splash.

Exactly and any coach that is scared to get paid base off on the field performance is probably not one you want around.
